My 9-month-old cat is throwing up worms. Are Zentel & Maxolon safe?

I recommend you take some of the worms for a formal indentification by your vet in order to determine the species and likely source (fleas or small mammals) so as to guide the most effective prevention. I wold recommend oral or long acting spot on flea treatment and also an insecticidal household flea spray to reduce any flea eggs or larvae. Tapeworm medications will only kill the adult worms inside the cat at anyone time and do not prevent reinfection but I wold not recommend treating any more than monthly

How much the kittens need to get of the Zentel depends on their weight. The dosing instructions should be on the bottle, and I would follow that. It is correct you need to deworming them every two weeks in the start. That is because it takes at least two dose of the medication given two weeks apart in order to kill all the worms. The first dose kills the adults present, while the second dose kills the ones that had no yet hatched at the time of the first treatment. I would give your kittens two doses two weeks apart, and then I would give it to them monthly until they are six months of age. After that, they can get it every three months. Yes - a wormer designed for roundworms is the best option. Be sure to follow all directions as regards minimum age for use (some should not be used before 9weeks etc), correct species and weight and to repeat treatment at the correct frequency. If she is vomiting frequently, a spot on medication may be more useful to ensure she does not vomit the oral treatment before it has time to work. Your vets office can advise on the most appropriate product available in your area

That looks like a roundworm. You need to deworm a cat every two weeks when they have worms due to the life cycle of the worm. The deworming treatment will not kill eggs. So the first treatment kills the adult worms present while the second one kills the worms that had not yet hatched at the time of the first deworming. Give Max a deworming treatment now, another in two weeks, and then another two weeks after that to be safe.

The medication in Vermox syrup is mebendazole, which should not affect the kidneys. I would assume that the tapeworm injection was praziquantel which also should not affect the kidneys (praziquantel is not effective against roundworms).
