Is Whiskas dry food and kitten food okay for my nursing cat?

I would feed her wet/canned kitten food during the last three weeks of pregnancy so she hass enough nutrition for making her babies grow properly. Oncee she has given birth you can keep feeding her the kitten food, so there will be an easy transition when the kittens will start to eat solid food at around 6 weeks. Find homes for them now, but do not give them away before they are 12 weeks old, as they will still need mama to teach them to be good kitties, to hunt, what is safe, what is not, etc. They will also need their siblings to play and play hunt and get coordination.

It's not a dumb question at all! :) It's recommended to feed kitten food to the nursing mother cat, because she is using lots of calories during this time to make milk for her babies. The kittens will likely start to show some interest in their mother's food around 4-5 weeks of age, when their teeth begin to erupt and they are capable of eating solid food - it's fine for them to begin eating it also, if/when they want to.

Yes please continue to feed Icy a good quality dry cat food and you may add some all meat wet food twice daily. There is no specific protein requirement as all quality dry foods have enough, and adding canned food will increase her protein intake also. I like to leave the dry food out all the time so she can free feed. She will need extra calories to have enough milk for the kittens. Once the kittens are three weeks old I start offering them kitten canned food, teaching them to eat by putting a little on your finger and having them lick it off. You also can soak kitten dry food until soft and try them on that. The sooner they start eating on their own the less it will strain Icy to feed them. There are lots of Whiskas products so I can't find the specific feeding guidelines for your cat food. There is usually a feeding guideline written on the bag or box of food that you can follow based on their current weight. If you can find this information and still have feeding questions, post a new question or choose a Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach Consult to discuss it further. Whiskas food is fine for cat's that are healthy on it! I do prefer that cats be on wet food instead of dry food as the extra moisture and higher protein content are great for cat nutrition. You may consider switching to canned Whiskas. I usually feed my cats Fancy Feast because that is easily found at my local grocery store. In general, canned cat food comes in 2 can sizes: small and large. I generally recommend feeding 1 small can twice a day for normal sized cats. Since Zoli is still growing, she may not eat the entire can, but you can still offer it to her to eat.

At this point in her pregnancy, you should feed her kitten food. If she does turn out to not be pregnant, it will not hurt her to feed the kitten food right now. You will feed her this diet until the kittens are weaned and no longer dependent upon her for milk. The dry cat food is just fine for her. Make sure there is no stress, leave mama alone. Do not constantly handle the kittens. Feed Bambi good quality kitten food, wet and dry. Leave the kittens with mama until they are at least 12 weeks old. Take them to a veterinarian for vaccinations at the age of 8 weeks (and continue for the next rounds of vaccinations as your vet prescribes), start worming them at 6 weeks and worm them every 2 weeks until they are 12 weeks old. Apart from that, cat mamas are great mothers who will teach their kittens everything they need to know, what food to eat, how to use a cat litter box, how to hunt, how to play fight (important for kittens to grow up with their siblings until they are 12 weeks plus old.)
