Can a weaned calf go back with its mom? Will she make milk again?

I can see how this is frustrating for you! However, other than a bit of discomfort for the momma cow, the fact that the calf has chosen to eat only from a couple of quarters should not cause any health issues. The lack of nursing will cause those particular quarters to eventually start making less milk in response to the increased pressure in them. Over time (about a week or 2) the quarters will no longer be big and will only be making the amount of milk that the calf may eat on an occasion - the other quarters will provide enough milk for the calf to thrive. Although there is not a huge increase in mastitis risk, please make sure you monitor all quarters for mastitis. Reintroducing the pups to the mom may be risky. She may automatically take them back and being nursing again. However she may ignore them and refuse to nurse them, and in a worse case scenario, she may harm the pups. And, after not nursing for 2 days, she may not be producing milk. If you do decide to reintroduce the pups they will need to be monitored very closely for the first few days when they are back with the mom to ensure that she will not harm them and that she will nurse them. You may have to put little clothes on them so they cannot suck each other. If mama does not have mastitis anymore, you could try giving them back to her so they can suckle her. She may even start to lactate again. (And make sure you monitor her well so she does not get mastitis again) Unfortunately puppies need the suckling for comfort so they will look for something warm to suckle whenever they can.

I'm sorry you recently lost Titan's mother! At five weeks of age, he's old enough to be weaned and shouldn't be nursing. I'd keep him separate from this other dog to stop the behavior. If he did nurse enough, she would produce milk for him, but he doesn't need it at this age. A puppy food is fine for him. I hope this helps!

There is no cause for concern. This is a normal part of the weaning process. The mammary glands should gradually get smaller and the milk production will eventually stop. It may take a couple of weeks for this to happen. In the meantime, monitor the mammary glands to make sure they do not become painful, red and more swollen. IT is possible your cow has mastitis. This is inflammation of the mammary gland. Mastitis can be mild or severe with a deep infection. Try to keep the teats as clean as possible. I would recommend trying to encourage the calf to nurse from the inflamed mammary gland or milk that teat often. IF the cows udder starts turning color, patient develops a fever or starts not feeling well I would recommend calling a vet for a good exam and possible antibiotics
