Are Vicks humidifier pads or lavender essential oil safe for cats?

Thank you for using pet coach. I would not be concerned about using a small amount in a small humidifier being toxic to Junior. However I would not recommend applying it to his skin or even applying it to your skin if he is going to be licking that area. I would limit the use of the humidifier to be on the safe side. Tea tree oil is toxic to cats, and I would not use it at all in your home, as there is a chance Poe could lick the oils and become very sick. Lavender is also toxic, as are citrus oils (orange) and eucalyptus. Peppermint and lemongrass are the only safe ones you have to use around Poe, and I would restrict your use to those essential oils only. You can also use cedar wood and rosemary.

Hello. For the most part, these diffusers are safe for cats, as long as there are regular air exchanges & some fresh air coming in all day. Most HVAC systems have automatic air exchanges, but if the weather is good, keeping a window cracked a bit is perfect. Some cats are very sensitive to odors, some do not care for them at all, so as long as the cats are not confined to a closed in room & can move to a different area, there is no harm in essential oils. One caveat, we have a diffuser mounted on a wall in our clinic & it malfunctioned ( exploded ) sending the contents all over a hallway. Fortunately, none of the office cats seemed to have walked through this, but that would be a concern if a cat ingests any of this. But otherwise, I would just enjoy the fragrance of your choice. No I would definitely NOT use Vick’s vapo rub for your kitty. I Wouldn’t use any ointment or medication for a runny nose in a cat. If midnight is having some nasal congestion and clear nasal discharge I would just clean around his nose with a warm wash cloth and humidify the air around him by placing him in the bathroom while showering (the steam may help) or by using a humidifier. If the discharge is becoming or yellow or green I would have him seen by a veterinarian. He may need medication for a secondary bacterial infection. Hope midnight is feeling much better soon!

Lavender, orange (can extend to blood orange), and peppermint are all toxic to cats so I would not use them at all. Cats have a much more sensitive sense of smell than humans, and even the smell of these can be very irritating. I don't ever recommend using any essential oils around cats due to the risks, and I would see if you can make the candle tarts in a place away from your cat. I hope this helps!

In most cases, if it is a tiny amount going into the air it isn't problematic, the main concern is if your cat is getting the oils onto their fur and licking it off, or directly inhaling the diffuser.

Hello, there is no problem using the humidifier/diffuser as long as the room in which you are using this is not closed. There should always be a source of fresh air into the room, so cracking a window is a very good idea, even for you. Otherwise, just make sure there is some air exchange going on in the room.
