Is it safe to use essential oils on an air filter near my cat?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

I realize that diffusing essential oils can be dangerous to my cats because it's spraying the oils everywhere. But if I put a few drops of the oils on my air filter and the scent disperses throughout my house, is that still dangerous?

In most cases, if it is a tiny amount going into the air it isn't problematic, the main concern is if your cat is getting the oils onto their fur and licking it off, or directly inhaling the diffuser.
