Why is my stray cat weak, shaking, with dry skin and closing eyes?

Our cat,a stray,probably a year old condition is sinking.I have seen same case happen with another stray cat of ours which sadly died..symptoms are dry and flaky skin on the head,shaking of one of the legs when it lifts,a little shaking of the head and overall body and gradual closing of the eyes..I feel it can now see only a little bit...though its appetite is good it seems to be weak..the previous one which died had a good appetite too untill its last day..we don't have vets here..please help

This is so sad. This cat needs a vet in order to even find out what could be causing his skin disorder and shaking so that we know what she needs to hopefully recover. Based on your zip code, I was actually able to find veterinarians near you that you could call and get help for this poor stray kitty.

The skin looks like possible demodectic mites or even just a fungal infection. The skin has to be tested to determine which so that we know how to move forward. Also the cat should have baseline bloodwork done to check for any possible deficiencies or low glucose that could explain the random shaking. It likely has an eye infection if one of the eyes is closed, so that should be treated with prescription eye ointment or drops from your vet as well.

Since the cat is eating well, then there is no need to change its diet, unless of course she feels thin, then you should try feeding her kitten food to help bulk her up and provide her with more calories. It is hard to tell if she is thin based on the photos provided.

I don't think I can help very much. I can't really tell what is wrong with the skin. Thin, weak, poor appetite, those are things that more likely indicate internal illness. In a stray, unvaccinated cat, FeLV or FIV would be on the top of my list. There is no cure for these viruses. We also can't prescribe medications, even OTC, as it is illegal.

This looks like mange but it could also be ringworm or a bacterial skin infection. If she is handleable I suggest you get her to a vet for an exam. There are many low cost clinics in your area including the Humane Society. It would be great if she could be spayed and vaccinated too even if you plan on just putting her back outside.

He is probably suffering from severe mange, he could possibly be suffering from some other infection as well, you will need to take him to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated, he will need several injections in order to treat these conditions.

He needs to be seen by a veterinarian. He could be suffering from an overactive thyroid gland or kidney failure, or is losing his hair due to mange mites. Mites are easily treated with a miticide. An overactive thyroid is also treated relatively easily (your vet will give you the particulars, there are several ways to treat) and even for renal problems there are various ways to give him good quality of life. It may be useful if someone in your neighborhood takes him in as their pet for treatment, and you all could pitch in for the vet costs.

I agree that this kitty is thin! And I can tell you with almost 100% certainty that this is a female, because almost all calico cats are female. Certainly she would benefit from some good nutrition in the form of a high quality food. I worry that the anus is so irritated because she has diarrhea, possibly from intestinal parasites, which could also be contributing to her failure to gain weight. The red eyes could be a sign of an upper respiratory infection. Cats don't get what we think of as pink eye, but certainly they can have bacterial eye infections, and these need treatment with antibiotic eye medications. I would recommend you keep this kitty safe overnight in the house with some good food, and then take her to your nearest vet in the morning. He/she can scan her to see if she has a microchip, as she could be lost from her owners, and then provide appropriate medications. The symptoms you have described do not fit with a fungal infection like ringworm. The skin appears unkempt all over. Jessy may have light sensitivity, which can happen with a number of diseases, such as tick-borne disease, autoimmune diseases, kidney disease, etc. I am so sorry, but without being able to examine Jessy and run blood work, I am not sure how to help you. Some of these diseases benefit from steroids, but in some cases, steroids could make things worse. He really needs to be evaluated by a vet.

What to do for a starved stray cat with eye issues and strong urine?
I would recommend that you have Kitty checked out by a vet. She may be thin just from poor nutrition, but other possible causes include intestinal parasites internal medical illness, or infection. The goopy discharge around her eyes indicates inflammation, and could be from an upper respiratory infection, eye infection, damage to the cornea, dehydration, among several other things. Use a warm wet washcloth to gently remove the discharge and help her keep it clean. A strong urine odor could be from poor living conditions, urinating on herself from UTI or bladder stones, other urinary issue, or from being scared and urinating on herself. You can bathe her with a pet shampoo to remove the odor. Until you can get Kitty to the vet for examination, keep a close eye on her appetite and urinary and bowel movements.
