When should I stop crating my cat at night? She meows in her crate.

Hello! It is absolutely not cruel punishment to contain your cat so you can sleep. I know of multiple high energy cats that are crate trained for this exact purpose. Cats love hanging out in small, dark spaces anyway, so with positive reinforcement, patience, and time, she will likely begin to love her crate time! I also recommend toys that dispense treats when they are played with for all high energy cats, as it can really help get them exercise and simulate their hunting instincts to play for food. HI, thanks for using PetCoach! Sadly this is a very common complaint. It is normal for cats to be vocal early in the morning, especially around the times they know that people get up. Despite appearing to not want your attention there is probably comfort for her knowing you are around. It is likely due to loneliness or boredom. Since she is already confined, you should enrich her environment. Be sure there is an open window to look out, consider putting a bird feeder there so she can watch the birds, get a cat tree for her to climb, etc. You can also close your door and use a noise machine or box fan to drown out her crying. You've done a great job with the litter boxes, as you should have one for every cat plus an extra. I would be concerned that the reason why Cecile isn't using the litter box lately because he has a medical illness, such as feline idiopathic cystitis or bladder stones. Before crating him at night, I recommend taking him into the vet for a health check. If he does have a medical reason behind this behavior, the vet can diagnose it and treat him for it. Eventually she will learn that it is not ok to do that and will stop waking up at that time to do it. Keep in mind though that she is a puppy and is behaving like a puppy would be expected to. I also really like a product called Feliway which helps to make cats feel more at ease in their environment. This is something you can easily get from your pet store or online. For now you can take her out for short periods of time supervised. Ultimately it is completely up to you how much you want to let her out. There is no set standard. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

I would crate him at night since you cannot watch him and he is so young. Once you know that you can completely trust him (potty and getting into stuff) then I would say you can let him out of the carte and sleep with you.
