My spayed cat is stressed: meowing, rolling, peeing. What can I do?

I generally recommend Feliway as a calming pheromone collar or diffuser as a first line of defense. However, female cats rarely "spray or mark" with urine. Tia may be developing a urinary tract infection, bladder stones or crystals in the urine as a result of the stress from your recent move and new friends. Her increased vocalization could be a result of either stress or pain from a UTI. It is worth first taking a trip to the vet for an exam and urinalysis to assure that she does not have a medical issue causing her urinary issues. I hope that all goes well!

This sounds like a complicated situation that may benefit from a consult or multiple questions. I will address the urination. Inappropriate urination is most common in multiple cat households. I would recommend that the cats be tested for urinary infections first. If normal then start addressing behavior. Add 1 more litter box than the number of cats. Start watching closely for “bossy” cats or stressful type of situations. Are they seeing outside cats and peeing after they see them? Is anyone scared of being attacked at the litter box? Add feliway diffusers into the rooms they tend to urinate in. This can get you started. Then look into feline environmental enrichment ideas. Hello, if this is a picture of how your cat looks currently, then she needs to be seen by a veterinarian. I am concerned about the fact she is not spayed, has skin lesions, & seems to have developed a significant behavioral issue. My thoughts are the possibility of an ovarian cyst or tumor that is affecting her hormones. Routine blood work may or may not reveal anything ( which is good ). so I would really think about getting her spayed. You can try the calming products like Feliway, & oral products like Solliquin, & Anxitane, but it sounds like she may be going through some pretty significant hormonal upheavals. If Callie is a young cat and isn't spayed, she may be in heat - if so, it's normal for her to be meowing constantly, rolling around, and posturing with her rear end in the air. If her behavior is caused by being in heat, spaying will resolve the problem. If she's an older kitty or if she is already spayed, then I would be concerned that she may have a urinary problem of some kind such as FIC (feline idiopathic cystitis), bladder stones, or a urinary tract infection. In that case, I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam and urinalysis. Your veterinarian can get her started on appropriate treatment for the problem depending on what is found.

I would recommend starting by using Feliway products to help calm him. There is a Feliway spray and diffuser that I would recommend using. This product contains a pheromone that helps make cats feel more secure and they typically do calm down. If he hears other cats outside this may make him more prone to meowing incessantly. Hi and thanks for posting! Aww poor Fanny- I like that name and cute picture of her. If the calming supplements do not seem to do the trick after a while and Fanny is still seeming stressed, then I would talk to Fanny's veterinarian about getting her on anti anxiety medication. There are lots of different medications your veterinarian may recommend. It may take 3-4 weeks to see any differences in her behavior, but this can really help especially if all other efforts have proven to be unsuccessful.
