My unspayed cat is aggressive after illness. Is it hormones?

It sounds as though Sam has a behavioral problem with aggression. If you have not tried the Feliway products yet, I would recommend doing so. These are pheremone products that are supposed to help calm cats down. I would make sure that she has plenty of environmental enrichment (toys, scratch posts, etc.). If these do not help, I would recommend discussing anti-anxiety medications with your veterinarian. I hope this helps! Hello. If you are not planning on breeding Booger, than please consider spaying her. She may be experiencing some wild hormonal imbalances, especially if she has developed cystic ovaries. I am sorry to hear about Lucy! Many cats can have personality changes at around 2 years of age as they truly reach maturity. That compounded with the fact that she is unspayed and has had a changing life situation over the past few months could definitely be affecting her personality. I would recommend an exam by a vet and having her spayed. If her aggression continues then a veterinary behaviorist consultation would be recommended.

Unfortunately, there are not any great medicines you can give for a hormonal imbalance as such. I would give her some time. I would also make sure she is eating and drinking normally. If not, she could be in pain or have an infection from her surgery. I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she is okay. Otherwise, give her a few days and she should calm down. It can take a few weeks for them to get back to 100% normal especially since she was so far along in her pregnancy. I hope this helps!

If the two females cats are not spayed I suggest you do that as soon as possible. That could sure be the reason for the tension. Not only that but if the females are not spayed and are going outside they will get pregnant guaranteed as soon as they go into heat. Usually the first heat cycle is around 6-7 months (so now). Hello. Laney's reaction to her kittens is pretty normal for a cat as they do not form very deep bonds with their offspring. However, the change in personality & weight loss is very concerning. There are multiple things that could be happening, from infectious to inflammatory conditions, so it is best to have her evaluated at your earliest convenience by your veterinarian. This sounds like a very frustrating issue! It is difficult to determine why Chino and her friend are suddenly having so many issues. At this point, the best thing you can do is get both cats spayed to remove hormonal influences that may be contributing to their aggression with one another. You can also use calming pheromone collars or diffusers (Feliway is one brand) for both cats. If the aggression continues after those options, it may be worth consulting a veterinary behaviorist to evaluate their behavior in your home. Keep both cats separated unless you are directly supervising them and avoid putting any part of your body between them if they fight. If they do begin to fight, dump water on them to distract from the situation and separate cats immediately. I hope that all goes well!
