Why is my spayed female cat still spraying urine after surgery?

That must be so frustrating for you! I recommend taking her into your vet if you haven't already to rule out a medical cause behind this behavior. Cats with a UTI will urinate everywhere, and she will need antibiotics to treat it if she does have one. Once a medical cause is ruled out, I would recommend spaying her. Female cats will mark to attract a male, and spaying her will help decrease this behavior. Even if it is a UTI causing this, I would still recommend spaying her. She may continue to mark to attract a male, and spaying will have many health benefits for her, including prevention of a pyometra ( a life threatening infection of the uterus) in addition to decreasing the marking behavior.

This behavior can be a sign of a medical illness, such as a UTI or bladder stone. I would recommend taking Kali into your vet tomorrow for an exam. Your vet can do routine blood tests and a urinalysis to see if she does have a UTI or bladder stones. If she has a UTI, she will need antibiotics to treat it. Bladder stones may need to be removed surgically, or can be managed with diet.

If you haven't already, having a sample of Coco's urine tested by your vet is a good first step. Urinary tract problems such as infections, lower urinary tract disease and interstitial cystitis may cause a cat to start having accidents in the house. If there are other pets or people in your house, Coco may also be a little bit stressed out, which can lead to this behavior. Making sure she has access to food, water, litter and bedding without competition from or harassment by others in the house can help. If you recently changed the litter type, this can also cause accidents, so returning back to the old litter or switching over a more gradual period may also reduce accidents.

This spraying could be related to a medical problem such as a UTI or bladder stones. I would have them both seen by a vet, as that is the only way to know which one of them sprayed and if there is a medical cause behind it. Having them seen by a vet tomorrow is best. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about checking a urinalysis on Bageara. She may just have a urinary tract infection that can be treated with antibiotics. If the urine is clear then I would recommend doing blood work on her to check her kidney values. I would also remove the top to the litter box. Some cats just don't like covered boxes. This sounds like a complicated situation that may benefit from a consult or multiple questions. I will address the urination. Inappropriate urination is most common in multiple cat households. I would recommend that the cats be tested for urinary infections first. If normal then start addressing behavior. Add 1 more litter box than the number of cats. Start watching closely for “bossy” cats or stressful type of situations. Are they seeing outside cats and peeing after they see them? Is anyone scared of being attacked at the litter box? Add feliway diffusers into the rooms they tend to urinate in. This can get you started. Then look into feline environmental enrichment ideas.
