Can spaying help my female cat stop peeing all over the house?

Will fixing my cat make her stop peeing everywhere? we have tried everything to get her to stop.

That must be so frustrating for you! I recommend taking her into your vet if you haven't already to rule out a medical cause behind this behavior. Cats with a UTI will urinate everywhere, and she will need antibiotics to treat it if she does have one. Once a medical cause is ruled out, I would recommend spaying her. Female cats will mark to attract a male, and spaying her will help decrease this behavior. Even if it is a UTI causing this, I would still recommend spaying her. She may continue to mark to attract a male, and spaying will have many health benefits for her, including prevention of a pyometra ( a life threatening infection of the uterus) in addition to decreasing the marking behavior.

Spaying her would be best of Sussie's health. It will prevent her from developing a pyometra, which is a life threatening infection of the uterus. In addition, it will stop her from going into heat and the behavior of a cat in heat can be very annoying (the vocalization, the constant need for attention). I would speak to your vet about having her spayed. I hope this helps!

If you haven't seen your vet for this problem I would recommend making an appointment for Gizmo to rule out a medical problem. She could have a urinary tract infection or cystitis and checking a urine sample would be a good idea. This behavior can be a sign of a medical illness, such as a UTI or bladder stone. I would recommend taking Kali into your vet tomorrow for an exam. Your vet can do routine blood tests and a urinalysis to see if she does have a UTI or bladder stones. If she has a UTI, she will need antibiotics to treat it. Bladder stones may need to be removed surgically, or can be managed with diet.

So sorry that she is having this problem. If your vet has ruled out medical reasons and you have already tried pheromones, litter attractants, etc. then you could talk to your vet about trying an anti-anxiety medication, like Prozac, and see if that helps stop her from urinating inappropriately.

This spraying could be related to a medical problem such as a UTI or bladder stones. I would have them both seen by a vet, as that is the only way to know which one of them sprayed and if there is a medical cause behind it. Having them seen by a vet tomorrow is best. Hi! It sure sounds like a behavioral problem, as she is trying to put her scent over the dog's scents. Spaying her might help, but she may now be in the habit of urinating/defecating on these items. There is a technique called "litter box retraining", where you confine her to a small room, with just her litter box and no other soft surfaces to use as litter. Once she consistency uses the box, you slowly give her more and more freedom. Hope this helps! And, cats usually prefer, non scented, clumping litter, without a litter box roof.
