My cat has given birth many times. Is it safe to spay her now?

I would recommend to spay her in the next 6 months if possible to prevent her from coming into heat again and potentially accidentally getting pregnant again. As long as she is healthy at the time of the second surgery it shouldn't hurt her to go under anesthesia again since she is so young. I hope this helps!

Luci can be spayed anytime. The main concern with spaying a cat that has just had a litter of kittens is if the kittens are still nursing and have developed mammary tissue. This extra tissue can increase the risk of an infection at the incision site. If she is not nursing kittens, the mammary tissue decreases and is no longer an issue. I would go ahead and schedule her to get spayed asap!

The best thing you can do is make sure she is not over weight. Also, when she is spayed, she will need to be separated from any kittens so that they do not injure the incision. I recommend to discuss your concerns with your veterinarian. Things that help a procedure recover if an emergency arises are to make sure bloodwork is done prior to the surgery, that she has an intravenous catheter placed prior to the procedure and that she receives intravenous fluids during the procedure. These will help to keep her safe. Just like human medicine, all sedative procedures have some risk but the vast vast majority of people and pets will do fine. You may consider interviewing a few veterinarians to ask about their protocols and safety record. It's always be to be informed. Having her spayed will provide protection from a variety of other health conditions and is generally safe. I hope this helps.

You should get her spayed, no questions about it, there is no high risk in having that surgery done at her age, she is still very young and it is a very simple surgery. cats are in very high risks of mammary gland tumors if they are not spayed and this condition is almost always fatal.

If Naomi still is full of milk, there is potentially more risk of bleeding and/or infection. We generally recommend that kittens be kept away from mom and not allowed to nurse for at least 2 weeks before the mom is spayed. Great question! Cats on average can have three litters a year, but typically it's recommended they should only have one or two at most per year. This is to give their body a chance to recover after having kittens, and to help keep the kitten population down. It's not good for them to have multiple litters a year, and it's also not recommend to have them breed past five or six years of age. This is because it will become too much strain on their body. I would not breed Macie more than once a year, and once she reaches five years of age, I would have her spayed so she can no longer have kittens. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Her breed is only a problem if she or the male cat has large skulls that they may not pass in the birth canal. It is not too early to spay her, in fact I usually recommend spaying at 6months. The more heat cycles so goes through the more at risk she is for mammary and uterine cancers as she ages. My recommendation is to spay her soon. Good luck and kisses to Sussie!
