Why is my 12-year-old FIV cat vomiting daily and what to do?

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 years and 8 months old | 11 lbs

My cat has FIV/AIDS and is coming up 12. He vomits everyday consistently unless he is eating sensitive stomach food which is expensive. I don't know why he is vomiting and don't what to do concerning it?

Chronic vomiting could be due to kidney failure, pancreatitis, hyperthyroidism and many more medical conditions. i would recommend having a blood test doe at your vet's, this should help revile what is causing this.

Poor Snoop! I'm not sure if any tests were done on him when he saw the vet, and there could be a number of reasons causing his daily vomiting. They include kidney failure, liver disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and cancer. It is not normal he is vomiting daily, and he needs to go back to the vet. I recommend getting a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis as a start to try to get an idea of what is causing his vomiting. Depending on those results, your vet may want to do further testing such as x-rays or an ultrasound. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

If blood work or x-rays didn't get us many answers, I would move forward with an ultrasound as that much vomiting isn't normal. Hello, thank your question about Kianti. Based on the symptoms and the low B12 that you report I would be concerned that Kianti could have underlying GI disease. If he hasn't had one already I would recommend pursuing an abdominal ultrasound so that the characteristics of his GI tract can be evaluated. Inflammatory bowel disease is a not uncommon condition in cats that can lead to chronic vomiting. This is usually diagnosed by ultrasound and can be managed with diet and other medications such as steroids depending on the severity of the disease. Hope this helps, good luck!

My senior cat with kidney disease is vomiting. Is it kidney failure?

Hi there. It's certainly possible that vomiting could be due to progression of her kidney disease, but could also be due to a number of other issues such as a simple upset stomach, or some other illness such as hyperthyroidism or pancreatitis. I would recommend taking her back to the vet tomorrow for a recheck, to see what her lab values look like and determine if any new problems have popped up. Your veterinarian can advise you on what should be done in terms of treatment from there.

Poor guy. Repetitive vomiting in older cats is often cauesd by kidney disease. Other possible causes include inflammatory bowel disease, lymphoma or a liver problem. I would highly recommend taking Simon to your vet and start with a blood test and urinalysis.
