My senior cat won't eat her wet food. How long can it stay in bowl?

If she is generally fussy, I wouldn't be too concerned that she has stopped eating her wet food as long as she's eating her dry cat food. It's very important that she eats, and it may be that if you've given her a different flavor of Whiskas, she simply doesn't like it and doesn't want to eat it. If she does stop eating food altogether, then I would be worried and I would have her seen by a vet.

Hi. I wouldn't change up the flavors regularly as that can cause GI distress. She will learn that when she cries for the wet food, and you put it there, that's what she gets. Sometimes warming it up on a paper plate for a few seconds helps release the smells and flavor. You can try that too.

If this abnormal behavior continues, and especially if she continues to refuse food, then you need to have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Your vet can get a detailed history, perform a physical examination, and recommend a diagnostic/treatment plan. A minimum database would be fecal/blood/urine tests and possibly some x-rays. Many things could contribute to this including pain, fever, toxin exposure, infection, among others. Good luck with Rosie.

I would try tuna or canned food or something special for her and bring the bowl to her. I would offer her some and if she does not eat then place a small amount in her mouth and see her reaction. If she slings or drools and overly disgusted by it, then I would stop and let her be, you don't want to create any food aversions for the future. if she swallows it then you can try a little more.

Hello, sorry to hear about Lily. You may try a different brand of wet kitten food. You can also mix it with dry kitten food. Depending on how often you are feeding her she may also not be hungry. Kittens may have a fluctuating appetite that may be associated with growing and how active they are. As long as she is eating some food, and not having any vomiting, diarrhea or lethargy then she should be ok. If you note any of the above then have her evaluated soon.

Anytime you open a wet food I would put the open portion in the fridge. I would recommend covering the food with either a lid (you can get them at the pet store) or plastic wrap. I usually throw all wet food away on the 4th day of it being open. If they don't like the cold food, you can heat in a little bit in he microwave. Just make sure it isn't too hot. I wouldn't worry about it one time if it was in a cool spot as long as Noushmc isn't having any vomiting or diarrhea. If Christian is doing well ont he Fancy Feast, I would just continue with this, as it is a safe food and as long as he doesn't have any other health issues should be fine if he is eating it well. I would, however, recommend having him examined by a vet to ensure there isn't a reason he stopped eating hard food such as oral pain, and also as a senior pet it is recommended to have a check up and bloodwork yearly. Canned/wet food is actually ideal for cats due to the fact that they often don't get enough water through drinking so the wet food is better for urinary tract healthy, but any time we have a change in appetite, it should be investigated!
