My senior cat stopped eating wet food, but eats dry. Should I worry?

Cats, like people, can have times when they are simply less hungry than others. Sheba still ate well, so I would not be concerned about this one time change in her wet food consumption. Keep an eye on her for signs of lethargy, vomiting or diarrhea, or if she stops eating any of her food. These would be signs that require veterinary attention. I hope that all goes well!

If Christian is doing well ont he Fancy Feast, I would just continue with this, as it is a safe food and as long as he doesn't have any other health issues should be fine if he is eating it well. I would, however, recommend having him examined by a vet to ensure there isn't a reason he stopped eating hard food such as oral pain, and also as a senior pet it is recommended to have a check up and bloodwork yearly. Canned/wet food is actually ideal for cats due to the fact that they often don't get enough water through drinking so the wet food is better for urinary tract healthy, but any time we have a change in appetite, it should be investigated!

Oral pain can be secondary to bad dental disease, jaw pain, or other conditions. In pets with mouth pain it becomes more difficult for them to chew on the dry kibbles and they often prefer the softer food. I would recommend having Whiskers seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine her and look for any abnormalities that could be contributing to this change. They can palpate her abdomen and look for evidence of constipation. Depending on their findings they can discuss the need for additional diagnostics or treatments. Hope this helps!

I wouldn't worry about your pet preferring dry over wet food. This sounds like her preferences have simply changed. Poor Tomasina. It's actually very serious when a cat won't eat, as if they go long enough without eating (about 72 hours), they will develop a fatty liver. A fatty liver is fatal without treatment, so you want to avoid that. I'd have her checked out by a vet today. While the change in diet can cause stomach upset in the form of vomiting and loss of appetite, it could also be she is sick.

Yes, in itself there is nothing to worry about. If Vincy was living in nature he would eat small prays and he would get moisture from his food. Biscuits and dry food is food formulated by humans, so if Vincy prefers wet food there is nothing to be worried about. Hope this helps !

It's definitely good to get her to eat the Whiskas food, because this has necessary nutrients for a kitten that she may not get from the other food. However, the other food has good nutrients and is appropriate for a cat. They also likely taste better than the Whiskas, so that's likely why she is not eating the Whiskas.
