My senior cat is vomiting white foam and food. What's the cause?

Cats throw up for several reasons including underlying kidney disease, an upset stomach, heart disease, or even an infection. The next best step is to take Minnie to your vet for a thorough exam and some diagnostic testing to help determine the underlying cause. Depending on her exam findings, diagnostic tests such as blood work and x-rays may be discussed. A treatment plan, including fluids to rehydrate her, will be formulated. She could have eaten a foreign object that is causing an obstruction in gastrointestinal tract. Intestinal infections or generalized inflammation can cause vomiting as well. There are three very common diseases that older cats get and I am guessing she has one of these that are causing her symptoms. Hyperthyroidism Diabetes Kidney disease These can all be easily tested with some simple bloodwork at your vets. It is not likely parasites so spend your money on the blood testing and not the fecal test. Only do the fecal test if the blood work all comes back normal. My best guess as to what is going on based on your description would be hyperthyroidism which can be easily treated. So please get Ebony to your vet for an exam and testing. Oh no, poor Chi Chi! It's quite serious that she is vomiting most mornings, and she could be suffering from liver disease, kidney failure, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or cancer among other causes. I would have Chi Chi seen by a vet sooner than next week if possible, and I would recommend having a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis done to survey her organ function and check for the diseases I mentioned above. Causes of diarrhea and vomiting at this age include pancreatitis, IBD, Lymphoma and other types of cancer. it is not easy to diagnose those conditions, she will need some specific blood tests and a specialist ultrasound to start with.

Poor Sweetie! In older cats, I would be concerned that the vomiting is caused by kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, a foreign body, or intestinal lymphoma. I would take her into the vet first thing in the morning. The vet can do a physical exam, routine blood tests, a urinalysis, x-rays, and possibly an ultrasound to determine what is causing her vomiting. Once the cause is found, the vet can recommend a possible treatment.
