My senior cat has a growing, sensitive eye bump. Should it be removed?

The picture did not attach, so I do not have that information, but we commonly see eyelid margin tumors in older dogs. These are most commonly benign meibomian gland tumors. Hello. I would just watch this for now. I have removed several of these off of older cats, & they are most often benign & not dangerous. Removal is always curative. If it looks like it is enlarging, or it is interfering with his ability to eat or chew, definitely consider having it removed. Otherwise, just monitor for now. I recommend taking Brody to your veterinarian for an exam. The lump could be an infection or it could be a tumor. Tumors can be benign or cancerous. Your veterinarian can take a sample of the area and decide if an infection is present or if it is something that needs to be removed surgically. Hello. That looks like a growth, not a sty. It may be benign or malignant, but due to the close proximity to his eyelid margin, it would be best to consider surgery to remove it. If it continues to get larger, it may cause issues with the eye or tear glands. Please have your veterinarian examine your cat and discuss surgical options. Thank you

Without knowing the nature of the lump it is impossible to advise - some masses are abscesses and respond to antibiotics but with many tumors surgery or chemotherapy would be recommended. A full check up and possibly a needle biopsy would be recommended

These could be benign tumors or they could be malignant. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Another option is to continue draining it on an as needed basis but that may get uncomfortable with time if you have to do it consistently. Anesthesia can be very safe if done appropriately. Unfortunately there is rarely any medical therapy for cysts. Good luck and have a good night!
