My cat has an eye growth. Is it a stye or something serious?

The picture did not attach, so I do not have that information, but we commonly see eyelid margin tumors in older dogs. These are most commonly benign meibomian gland tumors. Hello. This is very likely a benign tumor. I have a personal cat that has almost the exact same tumor on his chin that I am watching, too. But this is awful close to the eye, & if it gets any bigger, it may rub on the cornea. If you were my client, I would recommend removal. At 13, if your cat is relatively healthy with no underlying problems seen on bloodwork, then the surgery should go very smoothly. I would consider having it removed soon. Oh my. This appears to possibly be an injury to the eye and subsequent infection. It is hard to tell the degree of injury based on the photos, a vet exam is definitely needed her. I would highly recommend taking Mow to your local vet right away to get this eye tested, fully examined and treated. Best case scenario is that there isn't permanent damage done to this eye and antibiotics/pain medication /- drainage of a potential abscess are needed to get Mow better. Based on the location, this could be a blocked tear duct. It could also be a cyst or a growth. Do not squeeze it. Have her seen by a vet on Monday to have it treated since it has gotten bigger over time. Best of luck.

These could be benign tumors or they could be malignant. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Without seeing in person, I can't say exactly what it is on the bottom of her eye. Cats do get styes, they are localized glandular infections. I would recommend taking your cat into the vet to make sure that it is a style and not something else. In the meantime, there are few things you can do. Apply hot water to a clean cloth. Wring out the excess water and then gently press the warm, damp cloth to the affected eye. This will help to reduce swelling and inflammation. Keep the eye area clean. Contact your veterinarian if the stye persists for more than one week or if it worsens.

I am so sorry to hear about Bear. I would be concerned about a tumor as well if it is a mass coming from that region. The next step if the drops did not help and it is bothering your cat would be surgical removal of the mass. Some tumors are curable by surgical removal and may never cause an issue again, other types may come back if not completely removed or are more aggressive. After the surgery, the vet can send the tumor off for histopathology to identify the type of cancer that is present and determine if it is likely to return.
