My senior cat has a bleeding nose and facial swelling. What's wrong?

In a 10 year old cat, it's certainly possible that your cat has a tumor. Given that he has been having continuing problems with this swelling, I recommend having further testing done such a blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays of his head. This will help vet see if there is a tumor in his nasal cavity, and then the vet can discuss treatment options.

Common infections in that area are associated with fungal (Cryptococcus neoformans or Aspergillus) or bacterial. Cancer can also cause this in older cats. Your picture is a bit blurry but I would worry that this might be a tumor. A nasal polyp or fungal infection might cause an ulcer and nose bleeds as well. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian to have Fatcat examined.

Infections, systemic illness, neurologic issues, toxicity, something stuck in the nasal cavity, growths, tumors, etc can all be possible causes which would benefit from a complete exam. If you are able to obtain a temperature on Monroe at home, I would suggest it (look for between 99.5-102.5). You can also take a look at his gums for a moist and pink appearance. Dryness and paleness may be indicators of blood loss or dehydration. Regardless of your findings, I would certainly recommend having Monroe looked at sooner than later particularly if the bleeding you are seeing is significant in quantity. Hope this helps!

It could be many things, including a bacterial or fungal infection, ringworm, poorly healing wound, cancer, among others. Since there is blood and pus now present, I would recommend that Oliver get checked out by a vet. The vet can look at the wound and see what may have caused it, clean it up so it can heal better, and prescribe antibiotics or anti-inflammatories.
