Hello. If your cat goes outdoors at all, or has problems with fleas, it is not wrong to be proactive in preventing intestinal parasites. We basically do this when we administer monthly heartworm preventative to cats ( & dogs ). So yes, it is OK to worm your cat, at least a couple of times a year with a broad spectrum wormer. There are over the counter dewormers, but I recommend getting them seen. The over the counter medications don't always work. And it also depends on the parasite. If you feel the pets have a parasite, getting the checked with a fecal exam at your veterinarian and getting a trusted product would be best. Good luck.

Frend is so handsome, and he's so lucky that you have allowed yourselves to be adopted. Using a deworming treatment is an excellent idea, especially since he lives outdoors. I would recommend using Drontal or Panacur. You can get them from the vet (it would be a good idea to get him checked out by the vet, get him vaccines as well), and they are safe. With some products, the tablet will be too big to accurately cut down to the size needed for a kitten. If you are having this problem, then it's best to find a dewormer that is labeled for kittens.

Unfortunately those types of dewormers are all prescription only, and it depends how sick is your cat as well, if he is very ill i would recommend not giving him any dewormers unless you are 100% positive he has worms. the best dewormers on the market are Profender (spot on), Drontal and milbemax.
