Is it safe to release a healthy, formerly stray kitten outdoors?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 6 lbs

What are the odds of survival for a stray kitten who has been taken indoors for healing his illness after being released outdoors again? He was found about 3 months ago and has been taken care of indoors ever since. He's completely healthy now.

If he seems healthy now then the chance of survival is good. Although, there is always a chance he gets exposed to an infectious disease and/or trauma if he is outside, again. Make sure he is up to date on all vaccines, especially if he is going to be put outside again.
