What's the best dry food for adult cats: Royal Canin or Merrick?

Yes, I personally like Royal Canin diets. For her age, just the regular Adult food is fine. Canned food can be very expensive if that is all you are feeding. You can also feed a combination of both wet and dry if you'd like. Feed her according to the directions on the packaging. If you do both wet and dry you need to make sure you don't overfeed her. She is already at her maximum weight so if you notice weight gain you will need to back off on how much you are feeding.

Science Diet is a fine food, but Royal Canin is also a good diet. I recommend any adult cat food that has an AFFCO statement on the back of the bag that says its complete and balanced for adult animals.

I also like and trust Purina as well (my own cat eats Purina). Fancy Feast is considered a slightly lower quality, but I have seen many cats do well on it. I personally really like Royal Canin. It's a high quality food that I feed to my own cats. In looking up concept for life, I see it's branded as a holistic food. I personally recommend staying away from things labeled "holistic" because there is no scientific proof that they work and you often pay a lot extra for something that has no true benefits. Please also keep in mind that breeders typically do not have any education in animal nutrition and therefore make recommendations based on anecdotal evidence. I say use the Royal Canin, it's a great food that many of my colleagues recommend using in cats.

The food meets AFFCO standards, and they have veterinary nutritionists on staff, so you know the food is made to meet a cat's nutritional needs. Any major brand name that has an indoor care cat food line would be good. So this would mean something like Purina indoor cat, pedigree, Hills or Royal Canin. If you want to change the food do so slowly as sudden food changes can cause diarrhea and inappetence in a cat. So gradually mix the new food in with their old food, increasing the amount of new food over about a week time.
