Hyperthyroidism in cats is almost always related to a benign tumor of the thyroid gland which produces too much thyroid hormone. If your cat were already borderline, then sure, maybe excess iodine supplementation could provide the thyroid cells with plenty to work with and tip her over the edge into hyperthyroidism. But in a normal cat with no abnormal thyroid cells, excess iodine should not do anything at all. I like plaque off and have been using it for years with my clients and have not had anything like this happen. Overall, the benefits probably outweigh the risks. It may be difficult since chicken is an inexpensive, therefore common, ingredient in foods and treats. Another option would be to bake your own dental treats at home. Hello. If Pluto is doing well on a lamb based diet, then the lamb treats should be perfect for him. They do make hypoallergenic dog treats, but you may need to get them from your veterinarian. If Pluto has a relapse or breakthrough skin rash, immediately stop the lamb treats & you will most likely just need to stick with his kibble. I researched the product before I answered you and I did not see any harmful ingredients. However, that does not mean no animal will never show any adverse effects. If it does not agree with your cat stop using it. No one can guarantee anything. I have been a veterinarian in the US for close to 20 years and as a certified veterinary technician for 5 years prior to that. I have never heard of this product but that does not mean there is anything wrong with it. There are millions of products in the world marketed towards animals with new ones coming out each day. There is no way to keep up with all of them. Again, I suggest you contact the manufacturer directly for any concerns.

I would use this product only under the direct supervision of Sweetie's vet. The concern with seaweed, particularly in older cats, is that it is high in both sodium and iodine, which can exacerbate existing heart and thyroid conditions. I have not read any specific reports as to the effect of seaweed on the kidneys. The goal of this product is to keep tartar minimal on the crowns of teeth, but it does not slow or stop diseases under the gumline. As a result, I am not personally convinced of its efficacy.
