My pregnant cat is howling and leaking clear fluid. Is she in labor?

If she is due this sounds like she is starting to have the kittens. Put her in a dark, quiet place with bedding and leave her. Please check on her every half hour or so. If she seems in distress and no kittens come in a few hours you should bring her for an exam to make sure all is well. Most cats have kittens without problems. The symptoms you described are common in cats in heat. But that isn't possible if she is currently pregnant. Discharge can occur before going into labor, but if it is greenish, she needs to see a vet ASAP. It's also possible she has an infection in her uterus or a false pregnancy. Only and ultrasound or x-rays with a vet will be able to tell which situation is going on.

Hi there. If she is pregnant , it may very well be that her water has broken, or that she has passed some urine during contractions. Keep her in a safe place and keep an eye on her in case she has any trouble. Congrats on your new kittens!

This could be a sign that labor is near however it could be normal behavior for this stage of pregnancy. I would monitor Kawaii for any vaginal discharge, appetite change, hiding behavior or active contractions. If you notice any of those signs it is a more reliable indicator of labor. If she has any green discharge, contractions without producing any kittens, or has a foul smelling vaginal discharge she needs to be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible.

I would be concerned that the fluid coming out is not urine and instead is amniotic fluid. This could indicate that even though you don’t see her pushing, the kittens are ready to come out. The diarrhea can also be a sign of impending or active labor. You can use washcloths to help her stay clean, and a small amount of ointment like Neosporin to help protect her anus. The vet will need to exam this for a rectal prolapse. A prolapse can occur in animals straining, whether to defecate/have diarrhea or during labor. depending on the severity, it may require surgical correction.

Hello. A cat is pregnant an average of 63 days. A mucous or slightly discolored discharge could very well indicate that your cat is in the early stages of labor. If so, make sure she has comfortable area that is private so that she may have her kittens. She may also be hungry as pregnant cats will have a higher demand for food especially if she is earlier in her pregnancy.
