Pregnant cat leaking fluid from vulva. Is she in labor or distress?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed

I was rubbing my pregnant cat while she laid on her side and I noticed a sack of fluid hanging out of her vulva, should I be concerned or she is about to be in labor?

If she is due this sounds like she is starting to have the kittens. Put her in a dark, quiet place with bedding and leave her. Please check on her every half hour or so. If she seems in distress and no kittens come in a few hours you should bring her for an exam to make sure all is well. Most cats have kittens without problems. Good luck and enjoy your new kitties when they arrive.
