Is it safe for my pregnant cat to give birth with our dog nearby?

My cat and dog live together. Is it okay for cat to give birth with dog there . I keep taken her out but she keeps going back is it because she feels safe with him

It is recommended that when a cat gives birth that she is in a quiet room of her own. It helps reduce stress, and female cats can get protective when their kittens are born. It's best to place Jess in her own room when she is close to giving birth and keeping the dog out of the room.

It would be safest to remove your dog from the room and close the door once Jess goes into labor - even with very nice dogs, it's not always possible to predict how they might react to the birthing process. I would be concerned that your dog may try to eat the kittens, or may injure them accidentally by picking them up or chewing on them. It will also be stressful for Jess during labor if your dog is constantly licking or sniffing at her vulva, since there will be lots of discharge and interesting smells there during the birthing process.

Once the kittens have all been born, you can try bringing your dog in under supervision for a quick visit if you wish to see how things go :)

She should be in a quiet room that is familiar to her. The number of people should be limited. With one person checking on her every few hours. As for after the kittens are born I wouldn't allow the other cats in the room without you. Again just because they get along doesn't mean that one of the cats won't hurt the kittens. My pregnant cat is due. How to help her nest and feel secure?

I would recommend to keep her indoors only since she is due to have the kittens any day now. Allow her to have plenty of space away from the other cats so that she can be undisturbed by them for a period of time if she chooses to be. Nesting boxes are great, but ultimately she will choose to whelp wherever she is most comfortable. Clean, quiet areas where she can be away from the other cats is best. I would also recommend to use this time to have the male neutered, so that this does not happen again. Best of luck to your momma-to-be!
