My pregnant cat has brown discharge and is nesting. Is she okay?

Hello. As long as she seems to be acting fairly normal, this is probably just a normal discharge as the cervix begins to dilate. She should start delivering kittens in the next 24-48 hours. I can certainly understand being worried! It's not normal for a cat to have a brownish fluid discharge, either pregnant or not. If she is pregnant, this can be a sign of a spontaneous abortion, or it can be a pyometra. Either is a medical emergency, and I would take Kiara back into a vet immediately.

There is often a small amount of pink/watery vaginal discharge shortly before the cat goes into labour. If Kia is acting as normal, there is no vomiting and she has good appetite, you should monitor her at home. However, if there is any change and she becomes unwell, please take her to your local vets for a check.

It depends on how close to labor she is. Some pets may not stop eating until right before actual labor, while some may stop eating and lose appetite about a day or so before. Making sure she has a nest box to have her babies and keeping an eye on her for additional signs of labor such as visible contractions and pushing is best. If she continues to have discharge without going into labor, or is in labor for several hours without producing a kitten, seeking veterinary care ASAP is best to make sure there isn't an underlying problem or stuck kitten.

Any vaginal discharge in a pregnant cat other than a transparent discharge is not normal. If you notice a vaginal discharge you need to visit the vet, as this may indicate that the cat has a problem which can result in an abortion. She could also have a urinary tract infection. But in any case, she should be seen by a veterinarian.

That could definitely be mucous plug. It’s certainly not enough or abnormal enough for me to be panicking about anything serious. Leave her to her quiet area tonight and check on her every hours or two. If you do see larger amounts of fluid, dark discharge, foul-smelling discharge, or have other concerns, see a vet right away. Hello, at this point, just give her some more time, as long as she does not seem to be in any distress. Milk letdown is often stimulated with uterine contractions & the physical stimulation of the kittens attaching to the nipples. Since I cannot see the actual discharge you are seeing, I cannot say if this is normal cervical secretions or a problem, so if you are very concerned, contact your veterinarian to examine her to make sure she is having a healthy pregnancy.
