My overweight cat hasn't pooped in days after enema. Is this normal?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | 6 years and 8 months old | 16.3 lbs

Fatboy had a enema sat at noon he poop alot after we got home then poop Sunday morning and again monday morning hes 16 pounds we cut his food by 1/4 he gets bigger portion at feeding time was feeding him 6times now 4 trying to get 2 times my ? Is does bus colon have to be fill with poop before he goes he hasn't poop since monday morning 4 am it's now wed noon what u think our goal is to cut him down another 1/4 food we also give a chewy hair remedy a laxatone a day what u think

This sounds pretty normal. The colon doesn't necessarily have to be completely full for him to defecate. If you are cutting down his portions he may not have to defecate as much. You can continue to cut his portions down. He is definitely overweight at 16 pounds. I don't know if your vet suggested this but I would recommend you add some fiber into his diet - it is best to do this by using a high fiber prescription cat food like Hill's w/d or r/d. I personally would put him on one of those diets as his own source of food and not just use it as an additive. These diets will also make him lose weight. And he will be able to eat more instead of you cutting his regular food down until he is eating almost nothing. I suggest you speak to your vet about this.

You can continue the Laxatone.

    Fatboy's weight will not necessarily effect how much feces he produces and producing more stool is not a bad thing. Given the history of slow bowel movements (most cats have 1 -2 bowel movements a day) and the fact that he has already been constipated, I recommend a diet change.
    There is a diet made by Royal Canin called Fiber Response and it's my #1 choice for cats who struggle with constipation. It has special ingredients that promote a softer and easier to pass stool as well as promoting gut motility. Most cats do not need additional supplementation although severely affected ones might. Talk to your vet about using this diet. Your vet can then calculate how much to feed Fatboy to get him down to 13lbs. Continue to use the Miralax until you and the vet come up with a diet plan. Increasing the water intake can also help with constipation. You can do this by adding canned food with extra warm water added to his daily food intake.

You are better off giving him Miralax powder. The psyllium is a fiber that will bulk up the stools but it isn't really a laxative/stool softener. My cat isn't pooping a few days after an enema. Should I worry?
Yes and no. If Saber was anesthetized and had a manual clean out where lots of poop was removed, it can be normal not to see them poop for 1-2 days afterwards. If the cat had an enema and only a normal amount of poop was passed, I would expect the cat should have regular bowel movements each day. It's certainly not normal if it's been longer that 48 hours, and Saber still haven't pooped. Unfortunately, constipation can be a chronic problem in cats, and I recommend having Saber seen by a vet again for his constipation if he hasn't passed feces in more than 48 hours.

Cat with megacolon had enema, still can't poop. What should I do?
It's possible it will pass but sometimes it can't. I recommend to call your vet and get a time line for when Dexter needs to come back in if he does not pass the stool. These cats often benefit from fluid therapy. In severe cases this needs to be IV but as a maintenance therapy, it could be subcutaneous which you may be able to do at home. These cats often benefit from a high fiber diet and I recommend Royal Canin Fiber Response. Many cats do very well on this diet. I recommend to discuss this with your veterinarian. I hope this helps.

Cat still passing soft stool 24+ hours after enema. Is it normal?
If it's been over 24 hours and Elvis is still going or having trouble controlling his bowel movements, I would let your vet know. It is possible there was a large enough blockage/stool amount in the colon that he still needs to pass it, however it's a good idea to continue monitoring him, and your vet may recommend a recheck or X-rays to see how much is left/if further treatment is needed.

My cat isn't pooping after stomach bug & bland diet. Is he constipated?
It could be either one - he may not have much in his colon that needs to come out or he may be constipated. Sounds more like he doesn't have enough to go because usually when they are constipated they spend a lot of time in the litter box straining. I suggest you get him back on some cat food as soon as you can. I know you are transitioning back and we usually tell clients to do that over a week's time but I would try to shorten that to 5 days. One of the best ways to help constipation is to increase water intake. Ways to do this: apply chicken broth over the food or feeding canned food only (not dry). You can also try feeding more fiber in the way of canned pumpkin. Most cats will readily eat this: 1/4 teaspoon up to twice a day. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

How to help my senior cat lose weight safely after constipation?
Oh my, Kitty is a very handsome boy! I love his socks on his feet, so cute. Feeding him canned food watered down is an excellent way to get him to lose weight. Canned food has lower calories than dry kibble, and the added benefit is that it will get extra moisture into his diet hopefully preventing any further occurrences of constipation. Dehydration is the number one cause of constipation in cats. Do not feed him any treats, and try to play with him at least once a day to get him moving. At his age, he certainly won't be running around like a kitten, but movement will be good for him. I hope this helps!

What cat food do you recommend for an obese cat with constipation?
I would recommend a prescription weight loss diet. Those are high in fiber and have a lot more fiber than anything you can get over the counter. This will help him lose weight and with the constipation. If he continues being this overweight you are risking him getting diabetes which is very common in obese cats. Diabetes can be a true nightmare to manage. The diet I would say is the best for this issue is either going to be Hill's prescription w/d or Hill's prescription r/d. You can get this from your vet or your vet can give you a prescription so you can order online. Hope this helps. Best wishes!
