Should I put my old cat down due to frequent seizures and pain?

Sorry to hear about Babygirl. Unfortunately, without advanced diagnostic imaging it will not be possible to tell you with certainly the cause of her seizure activity. An MRI would be the only way to accomplish this positively. Based on her age and no previous history of seizure activity, a brain tumor or tumor elsewhere in the central nervous system would be the most likely diagnosis. Much lower down on my list would be some sort of infectious or inflammatory process. Even lower would be extremely late onset epilepsy. Based on what you are telling me, it sounds like humane euthanasia is probably the best decision you can make for her. I know it's hard but I hope it gives you some solace knowing that you are bringing her to peace.

Seizures can be treated with medication, so I would have Ashie seen by a vet right away. It may be possible that antiseizure medications can improve her quality of life so euthanasia doesn't have to be considered at the moment. I would speak to the vet about the possibility of these medications. If she seizures again before you seek veterinary attention: - do not put your hands near her mouth so you don't get bitten - you can apply rubbing alcohol to her paws to cool her down - monitor her at all times to ensure she doesn't harm herself moving around.

I'm sorry to hear that Mozza is having such severe seizures. While I do not think that seizures cause true pain, it sounds as though her quality of life is severely diminished. Recurrent or prolonged seizure activity can cause significant elevations in body temperature and subsequent brain damage. If she isn't improving, I would definitely recommend taking her back to your veterinarian for a recheck, or getting a second opinion from another vet in your area. It sounds like x-rays would be a logical next step to get a better look at her spine, and she might also benefit from a steroid and/or other type of pain medication such as buprenorphine or gabapentin, even if no definitive diagnosis can be made. You can discuss these options with your veterinarian when you take her back in to be seen.
