Why is my old cat walking into furniture, circling, and urinating?

It may not be his time yet but he does need to be examined by the veterinarian today. The disorientation and potential blindness is concerning for low blood sugar, hypertension, a brain tumor and a few other conditions. Some of these conditions respond very well to treatment and some don't but first, you must know what is happening so you know the treatment options. Sounds like your cat has something affecting her nervous system and it is pretty severe. He nerves innervate the eyes, influence her stance, her gait and also her mentation (ability to be aware of her surroundings). Several things can affect the nervous system including toxins, chemicals, liver shunts, primary brain stem lesions and tumors, and severe liver disease. I would highly recommend taking her in to your vet for baseline bloodwork and radiographs to start. Her lab work findings will help them pinpoint what is going on with her internally so that you can best help your furry friend. There really isn't much you can do for her at home until you know exactly what is going on with her and then get the vet to prescribe medications to help her condition. I hope she feels better soon.

Andre May be having mild seizures. If the episodes occur more than once or twice a month, it would be best to schedule an appointment with your vet for an exam and screening bloodwork for Andre to possibly be started on anti-seizure meds. Definitely bring a video of one of the episodes to help your vet accurately diagnose the episodes. Bloodwork would let your vet know if there are underlying liver/kidney issues that may be causing the seizures and would provide a baseline for tracking the effects of possible seizure meds (some seizure meds can cause long term damage to the liver). If Andre is excessively aggressive, an injectable sedative combination such as midazolam/torbugessic that is generally safe in seizure patients may be used by your vet prior to examining him and taking blood. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Since Macho Man is walking in circles, I would be worried about a possible neurological issue. Especially if he is having urinary and fecal accidents in the house, I'm worried he either cannot control his bowel movement, or is unaware that they are happening. Circling (walking in circles) could be a sign of forebrain disease, meaning something is wrong in the front part of Macho Man's brain. Since he is older, there is a chance his signs could be due to something like a brain tumor. I recommend having Macho Man evaluated by either your veterinarian or a neurologist, if your veterinarian is not comfortable with neurologic exams. I hope this is helpful.

This does not sound normal and I recommend to have her examined today. A blind cat generally does not have trouble walking. Instead they tend to walk slowly and cautiously but they are not unbalanced. A sudden onset of neurological signs is always concerning and could indicate poisoning, a stroke from a blood clot or even potentially infectious diseases which can infect humans like Toxoplasmosis. I recommend to play it safe and have Kiki examined today. Especially with a concern for infectious disease for humans. I hope this helps.

I am so sorry to hear about Tabitha. I would recommend getting her in to the vet immediately for examination and treatment based on these symptoms. Without knowing her age or history it is difficult to say why, but the fact that she is walking in circles and having accidents is very concerning. There is no at-home treatment for this medical condition, and the sooner she is seen the more likely she will be to have a better outcome.

This could be a number of things including diabetes, severe arthritis, a brain tumor, infection, inner ear infection, and others. Regardless, it is clear she is not doing well. She needs a thorough visit with a vet to figure out what’s wrong and how to make it better.
