Why is my senior cat suddenly unstable and having trouble walking?

Monkey Cat needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. Balance problems are never normal and can indicate many things including metabolic disease, drug exposure, an infection in the brain, cancer, low blood sugar, neuropathy and other causes are possible. A physical exam and bloodwork is needed to begin figuring out the cause and the best treatment. Other diagnostics may also be indicated. I hope it's nothing too serious and that she gets back to normal quickly.

Losing balance in an old cat is not a good sign, common causes include hyperthyroidism, kidney failure, diabetes and cancer. You should take her to the vet ASAP in order to get that checked, she will need to have a blood test done.

I would have her seen by a vet for this today, as in a senior cat, neurological problems can have serious causes such as brain tumors. In the meantime, keep her quiet and calm, and if something like this happens again, I would record it to show the vet.

You need to take Kiki for an examination at the vets asap. Refusal to eat and lack of balance could be attributed to many different conditions some of which can be fairly serious. Your vet will likely need to run some tests to get to the bottom but of this.

It may not be his time yet but he does need to be examined by the veterinarian today. The disorientation and potential blindness is concerning for low blood sugar, hypertension, a brain tumor and a few other conditions. Some of these conditions respond very well to treatment and some don't but first, you must know what is happening so you know the treatment options. Unfortunately, without a diagnosis it's impossible to say what you need to do to help him - there are many things that can cause a drunken, uncoordinated gait in a kitten this age, and all of these different problems would require different treatments. If the kitten has been to the vet, I would recommend asking him/her what they think is causing the abnormal gait. The kitten may have a birth defect called cerebellar hypoplasia, which is a benign condition that does not require any treatment, or could have a serious neurologic problem such as toxoplasmosis, meningitis, or even a toxicity of some kind (antifreeze, etc.) - these issues are much more serious, and would require prescription medication or even hospitalization to treat appropriately.
