My newborn kitten has a stomach cut. Can I treat it at home?

You can try putting some neosporin on it twice a day. If it isn’t healing then I would have your vet take a look at it. She may need oral antibiotics or there could be a parasite in it causing the hole. I hope this helps!

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). The area should be shaved first and washed profusely with clean water. Disinfection can be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths twice daily. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. Sudocream or zinc oxide cream can be applied on the wound after cleaning and drying it up. Keep him indoors and keep in touch for updates. The main concern is to keep it clean and free of infection. You can lightly trim the hair around the wound and then do a thorough clean of the area with iodine diluted 50:50 with warm sterile water or chlorhexidine solution 3%. Then leave the area alone until Newborn can see the vet on tommorrow. Since your kitten is so young use care not to introduce cold water because kitten cannot regulate his temperature very well. And it is best to use gloves when handling kitten as well.

I wouldn't recommend anything more at home, but I would encourage you to have your vet examine this young kitten. It is unusual for such a young kitten to develop an abscess and oral antibiotics might be necessary to help treat infection. The vet could also make sure this kitten is otherwise healthy with no indications of an underlying health condition that could have led to an abscess.

Hi ! It is a very neat wound, so if you clean it with some saline (flush it with a syringe and some saline solution that yo can busy from the chemist) for the first couple of days and it should heal on his own without stitches in the next week or so. You will need to keep an eye on it and check it every day to make sure it is getting better and healing. If the wound starts to ooze, or swell, then it might mean that it is infected and needs to have antibiotics. Hope this helps !

This looks like an ulcerated wound but I cannot tell how deep it is for those pictures. It could also be a site of a fungal infection as well. Cats that are nursing kittens should have noticeable mammary development and milk production so if that is not present you will need to bottle feed the kitten depending on its age. For the wound it should be kept clean and dry and Skunky should be prevented from licking it by wearing an ecollar. The hair around the site can further irritate it as well so usually wound care is needed. A veterinarian near to you can examine the site, determined if it needs to be closed or heal in its own and if any medications are needed. Cats are very sensitive to medications so do not give any human medications to her.

This is a nasty wound. I would put Cheeru in the sink or tub and gently flush this wound with cool water until it is clean and all the discharge is removed. Then keep her inside in a small clean room with fresh bedding, food, water and litter. It looks like you may have put iodine solution on it as a disinfectant in the picture, which is fine. She will lick and clean this area so I don't like to apply ointment on it. You can take some hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and clean the area daily if needed. Draining watery, bloody fluid from the area is normal. Give her wet food with added water to make sure she doesn't become dehydrated. Luckily cats usually heal well when the wound is open and draining like this one. Expect this to take a few weeks to heal.
