Is it safe to bring a new kitten home to my cat before its shots?

There are veyr few conditions other than intestinal worms which are easily transmitted between dogs and cats but it can be very stressful for both dogs and cats to be mixed depending on the nature of their characters. I recommend a trial visit before you proceed with making plans!

This is great. I would freshen up your Angora cat's vaccination and when you adopt your new kitten, make sure it is examined, wormed and vaccinated by your veterinarian. All should be well then. Oh, and there will be a lot of hissing and spitting....do not despair. It will take time but eventually they will at least tolerate each other or even like each other. If your dog isn’t up to date on rabies you should make sure he gets vaccinated not just due to potential exposure but also because it’s a very important human public health concern. I would guess that most kittens going into a foster situation would be too young for a rabies vaccine. You may want to have Onyx on a flea and tick preventative since young kittens can have fleas, and even if they have been dewormed intestinal parasites could still be a concern if he could access the litter box.
