Is it normal for a new cat to hide after adoption and neutering?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your new cat. I suspect that she hides as she is still adjusting to life in your home. Indoor cats are fairly sedentary anyways and will spent a portion of their day sleeping. They tend to be more active in the evenings or nights by nature. She is potentially still a little sore from her surgery as well. It sounds like is adjusting well to living with you. Just be patient with her. I hope this information helps!

It's a typical fearful cat behavior, one of my 3 cats is exactly like that, she pretty much lives under our bed during daytime, she rarely comes out. when the night falls she comes out and this is pretty much when her life begins. i'v had another cat in the past with almost identical behavior, i believe it is a combination of a character with a possible trauma in early life. just over a month though is not enough time to determine if this is how he is going to be in the future, he might still snap out of it and become less timid/fearful.

It is wonderful you adopted a new cat. New environments can be very scary for certain cats. I would recommend making sure that MIllie has easy access to a litter box and food. I also would make sure she has a safe place to high and get up to a high place (like cat tree). It also can take type for her to adapt to her new space and feel more comfortable. She is still very young so I would just recommend moving slowly with her. I hope that helps

That is perfectly normal. Your cat is likely afraid of the other cats in the household and the smell he is not used to and the new place. It would be best if your friend could keep your cat in a room separate from the other cats, so that he will feel safe to come out to eat and use the litter box.

Some kittens are more shy than others. Give him time. Pet him and talk to him, eventually he will be tamer and interact. Imagine he is in a new place, with new smells, people without his mommy. 2 months of age is still very young to be taken from the mother, so he probably feels very lonely and sad after his mommy.

I would give her some more time. I would also entice her to come out with some new toys and even an interactive laser. I say give them at least 2 weeks to become fully comfortable with the new house. I think you are asking if it is normal that Matias has not defecated since you got him last night and the answer is absolutley yes. Food is often withheld before surgery so he may not have eaten in about 24 hours. If he is eating, do not worry about it. If he is not eating yet, be sure to give any pain medications given to you by the vet or shelter. If he hasn’t eaten by tonight or hasn’t defecated by tomorrrow night, bring him in to the vet.
