Is it normal for a new cat to hide after adoption and neutering?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7.7 lbs

So i just adopted this beautiful cat from my local shelter. Well they had to neuter him before giving him to me. I was wondering if it's normal for him to hide out around my house, and not come out usually at all except at night when we go to bed.

Congrats on the new cat! Yes, with so much change in Salem's life it's normal to be a bit fearful and hide until things settle down. It's possible he may be a timid cat indefinitely, but most likely he will get more social as he adjusts to his new surroundings.
