My cat is hiding and won't explore new home. Is this normal?

It will take time for Kiki to get used to being in your home. There are some cats that will not come out while kids are around at all. I would just give her time and when she wants to come out just give her attention if she would like it. It can take up to a full 2 weeks for their personalities come out. So I would still give her time, but know she may always be a cat who only comes out when the kids are not around. From Gati's point of view moving house is a very scary experience. Cats are very sensitive to stress. Let her hide where she wants and I would suggest putting her things in that room so she feels safe. Make it easy for her to access food water and litter in this room. Give her some space and time and she will become more comfortable and gradually explore the house. You can get diffusers for cats that release pheromones they can help.

Hi there. Thank you for using PetCoach. You are doing fine. Just give them some time to feel comfortable. Avoid stress and loud noises. Don't put their food/litter box in any place where there is a lot of traffic/noise. Don't force them to do anything as this will make it worse. I suggest you try some Feliway diffusers in your house. It can take time for cats to get acclimated to their environment. I would give her time if you just got her. She also may be one of these cats that does hide during the day. I would just make sure you give Scruff attention and play time with her and give her time to come out on her own. I would recommend getting a laser toy for Scruff to play with her. I usually recommend getting toys a cat likes to play with, and that depends on the individual cat. Some cats like to chase balls, others like toys with catnip in it, and some love feathers attached to strings. I personally really like the Catit brand of toys, they have this Senses Play Circuit with a ball in it, and it encourages a cat to play but they can do it on their own. I would go to a pet store and get a variety of five toys to see what Keke may like best. Moving into a new home is stressful for a cat, and it will take time for her adjust. Be patient. Offer her treats and praise when she comes out of hiding to see you. That will encourage her to come out more. I hope this helps!

Put a littler box and food near the bed and close the door. Go in multiple times per day to sit with her. She will get more comfortable with time. Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear that Tippy is having a hard time adjusting. I would recommend a couple of things. I would try to decrease stress as much as possible. That may mean closing the door to the room that Tippy is in during the day to give her a "safe" place to be. You could also add a Feliway Diffuser ( https://www.feliway.com ) to your house. This is a calming pheromone that will work for a month. I have also had luck with Rescue Remedy ( http://www.bachflower.com/rescue-remedy-pet/ ) which can be added to the water. You could also consider calming music specially for cats ( http://throughadogsear.com/tace/through-a-cats-ear-1-music-for-calming/ ). But Tippy may just need more time, so don't rush things. I would leave her food in her "safe" area and just give her time. I know it seems like 6 weeks is a long time, but hopefully some additional calming techniques will help.
