My cat is hiding and won't explore new home. Is this normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 months and 7 days old | 4.8 lbs

Recently moved from a very noisy condo across the street from a train station to a house in a nice quiet neighborhood. Set up Kika my cat in my bedroom with a feline defuser. Food water her carrierand her toy box. I keep the bedroom door closed till I come home. I'm gone about 9 hours. When I come home she's under the covers and shaking. It's been 5 days now and when I am home she won't cruise around the house. Like she's scared to explore around the house. Is this normal?

I would give her some more time. I would also entice her to come out with some new toys and even an interactive laser. I say give them at least 2 weeks to become fully comfortable with the new house.

It can be normal for cats to take some time to adjust to a new place.
