When to neuter my thin Persian kitten & help him gain weight?

After neutering, generally at the age of 6 months, in Leo's case 8 months, cats are still growing not yet reached their full size till around 12 months of age. For now I would recommend to stick to a good quality kitten food till a year old. But, many young cats gain weight beyond what they should gain after neutering so watch him if he is gaining more weight then he should then talk to your vet about adult cat food, some are specific to castrated/spayed young cats.

I recommend to keep him on this food. Assuming he likes it, it is maintaining his weight well, I don't recommend to change anything. In general with pet food, if something is working well, don't change it unless there is a reason to do so. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

If you stick to a regimen like that, there should not be a concern about her getting overweight. Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with the foods that are available in Turkey, but in general kitten food is higher in protein and fat for growing kittens. And as you found, a spayed cat will gain weight on that. I would suspect that a neutered cat food would be formulated to be slightly lower in calories than a regular adult cat food since their metabolism decreases slightly when a cat is neutered. That would be why Balim lost weight on that formula. If she is active enough to maintain her weight, I would supsect that a regular adult cat food is fine, but if she starts to gain too much weight, a neutered cat food may help prevent her from gaining weight as she gets older. Finally, we do not tend to see the same problems with the urethra in female cats that we do in male cats (but can see some bladder problems). I generally don't recommend feeding a special diet like that until a cat has a problem. I hope that was helpful and answered your questions. Hello. At this time, we generally do not recommend keeping a male cat intact for an extended amount of time, because if he starts spraying at puberty, it is very difficult to break this habit. If your veterinarian is not detecting a rent in the abdominal wall, then see how he develops over the next couple of months & consider neutering him around 5-6 months of age. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It may be that they are heading towards sexual maturity or the female cat expressed her anal glands. Most neutered male cats will lick themselves while their penis is out. I would consider neutering him sooner, as long as he is 5 lbs I think it is fine to do before 6 months of age. Good luck!

Most cats can be fixed once they are over a certain weight rather than a certain age. Bringing him to your vet to be weighed and talking with your vet can let you know if he is large enough to be neutered. Your vet can also check for any remaining baby teeth in his mouth, as well as adult teeth that have come in to give you a closer estimate of his age. (It's hard to tell from your photo if those are still baby teeth or if they are adult teeth coming in, but this usually happens starting around 3-4 months of age, and finishes around 6-7 months.)
