How long should my 6-year-old neutered cat eat sterilized food?

After neutering, generally at the age of 6 months, in Leo's case 8 months, cats are still growing not yet reached their full size till around 12 months of age. For now I would recommend to stick to a good quality kitten food till a year old. But, many young cats gain weight beyond what they should gain after neutering so watch him if he is gaining more weight then he should then talk to your vet about adult cat food, some are specific to castrated/spayed young cats.

You can neutered Pelly now. It's best to neuter him before he reaches sexual maturity, which can be any time after six months of age. There's not a benefit for a kitten to have the Royal Canin sterilized jelly food after neutering, it's better for older, more sedentary cats. You can mix in kitten wet food with his dry food to see if he will eat it, and have a health check done with the vet. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with the foods that are available in Turkey, but in general kitten food is higher in protein and fat for growing kittens. And as you found, a spayed cat will gain weight on that. I would suspect that a neutered cat food would be formulated to be slightly lower in calories than a regular adult cat food since their metabolism decreases slightly when a cat is neutered. That would be why Balim lost weight on that formula. If she is active enough to maintain her weight, I would supsect that a regular adult cat food is fine, but if she starts to gain too much weight, a neutered cat food may help prevent her from gaining weight as she gets older. Finally, we do not tend to see the same problems with the urethra in female cats that we do in male cats (but can see some bladder problems). Hello. An increase in eating is not usually associated with neutering, but weight gain due to less activity is. Kovu is very young to have any of the conditions associated with an increased appetite such as diabetes or hyperthyroidism, but it might be a good idea to have this checked just to be sure. If Kovu continues to eat this way, he could become obese & could develop diabetes, so you do want to get on top of this as early as possible. See your vet to make sure there is no underlying conditions leading to his hunger. Otherwise, he may actually need a higher calorie food. Calories in cat food, both dry & wet, can be very variable in their calorie counts. Kovu might eat less of a more nutritionally dense food, so check your labels. If he just as demanding after a few weeks on a higher calorie food, you may need to actually switch him to a "light diet" where he will get more fillers & less calories. The answer is up to you and your cat. Some cats prefer dry only, some wet only, some enjoy both. Kitten food is still needed at six months of age and will be until he is a year old. Cats are carnivores, and canned, pate-type wet food is the closest to what they would get in the wild. Dry food has to have some carbohydrates in the form of grains or vegetable pulp in order to be made into dry nuggets. Cats have a very low carbohydrate requirement and some gain excess weight on dry food. Feed the best food you can afford. My personal favorites are Science Diet and Royal Canin. Both offer excellent quality, specifically formulated diets that are nutritionally complete for your pet's life stage and condition and both offer money-back guarantees if your pet doesn't like them. Just make sure when switching to a new food to introduce it gradually. Transition your pet onto a new food by offering the old food in one bowl and a mix of 1/4 new food and 3/4 old food in another bowl next to it. Do this for a week, then offer 1/2-1/2 new/old food in the second bowl for a week. Change to 3/4 new-1/4 old for a week and gradually stop putting old food in the first bowl. By the end of the month she should be transitioned to the new food with a minimum of digestive upset.
