Is it okay for a mother cat and her son to breed and get pregnant?

Unfortunately, brothers and sisters will mate and the offspring may have health problems, so I would strongly recommend having them desexed as soon as possible. Female cats come into season based on the number of daylight hours, so your kitten may come into season shortly (often January to February). If the cats did not actually breed then she wouldn't become pregnant. If she goes outdoors it is possible pregnancy could occur from another cat, or if these 2 were unsupervised it is possible they had a successful mating when you weren't home. If you aren't planning on breeding your cat in the future I would recommend getting her spayed.

It is most probable that the male cat is the father of the kittens. As long as your mother cat and kitten are safe and the male cat is not harming them I would not be too concerned. However, keep in mind, that the Mother cat cat can become pregnant again within just a few weeks of giving birth. If you do not want her having any more kittens then you should have her spayed as soon as possible. Keep an eye on the interactions between the male and the mother cat and as long as they are not hurting one another it should be fine. I hope this helps. It is unlikely that they will act in a sexual nature toward each other since they were each spayed/neutered before becoming sexually mature. As I'm sure you are aware, cats being brothers and sisters normally does not stop them from breeding. But since they are both sterilized, they will likely not try to mate with each other. If they do for some reason, they will not be able to produce kittens. I hope this is helpful!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If she hasn't been spayed yet she should be able to still have kittens. Her breed is only a problem if she or the male cat has large skulls that they may not pass in the birth canal. It is not too early to spay her, in fact I usually recommend spaying at 6months. The more heat cycles so goes through the more at risk she is for mammary and uterine cancers as she ages. My recommendation is to spay her soon. Good luck and kisses to Sussie!

Pregnancy can be a very stressful time for animals, and it may be hard for your cat to be separate from her previous offspring. However, my recommendation would be to separate him from her so that he cannot suckle/breastfeed from her before her kittens are born. The milk produced at the beginning of lactation is very antibody-rich and important for the brand new kittens to ingest. There is also the possibility that the previous offspring could out-compete the brand new kittens for nipples if they are left together. The new kittens will need the most care and nutrition from the very beginning, and if he is allowed to suckle from the mom, the newest kittens may not get all of the nutrition they need. Runts of the litter should not be bred as they are much more likely to have complications including dystocia, milk fever, etc. I would recommend not breeding her, and would actually recommend getting her spayed right away to prevent an un-planned pregnancy that would put Katya in danger.
