My new mom cat bites me! Why is she aggressive and how to stop it?

This behavior is relatively common in kittens separated from their mother at a young age. I don't know that you could stop this behavior now that it is ingrained - you may want to restrict access to your bedroom in the morning instead. If Biff tries to nurse or bite at other times, you should give him something like a stuffed animal to play with and should remove yourself or him from the room. Some cats are somewhat rough and vocal with their kittens. As long as the kittens appear to be nursing regularly, are snuggled up together or close with mom, and are not in any sort of weak condition, I would not remove them from their mother's care. Obviously monitor the situation carefully. If you start seeing any sort of serious marks or wounds on the kittens, you will know for sure that she isn't just moving them. If you need to separate them you will have to institute a bottle feeding schedule, keep them warm, and stimulate their bowels / urine. This is the time of year when cats start to come into heat again, and if she isn't spayed and there is an intact male nearby, she may be going into heat and trying to push away her previous litter in order to make room for a new one. If you do not wish to have more kittens, I highly recommend having Chloe (and the kittens) spayed if the male cannot be. 5 cats (plus the others you mentioned) is also a lot of cats, and the sheer number may be very stressful for her. Finding homes for the kittens, or making sure everyone has access to their own food, water, bedding, litter, etc can help decrease tension.

Hi, your cat is very young still so being playful it is not unexpected however if she is being aggressive too there are lots of things to consider. You can try to offer her as many occasions to display normal predatory behaviour, such as toys and feeding puzzles. If she does not have any access to outdoors, would it be possible to have a Catio arranged for her to experience some kind of sensory stimulation/observe outside etc ? Does she have places at home where she can be left undisturbed and rest ? Cats are not naturally sociable and it is not uncommon for mothers to reject the kittens beyond puberty. It may ve worth considering segregation to different parts of the house or even rehoming one if very aggressive.. Pheromone products and calming diets or supplements can help in less severe cases

Kittens are socialized through interaction with the mother cat and their littermates, and kittens who are separated from mom at a young age tend to miss out on this socialization. One explanation for why they may seem more aggressive is that they are treating people like other cats, and being more aggressive with them. I will also say that it is pretty common for cats to be fearful and therefore aggressive at the veterinary clinic - and who could blame them? Unpleasant things they don't understand tend to happen there. If she seems anxious and fearful at the vet you could ask about things to try to reduce her stress level like pheromones or a sedative.

Hello. Unfortunately, this is not a friendly family group. Cats do not often form strong bonds with their offspring & she may be feeling a little threatened by having them around as they get older. It may be a good idea to either find homes for the kittens, or consider spaying the mother cat. This may alleviate some of her anxiety. Hopefully, things will even out for her soon.
