Why is my fixed mother cat aggressive to her 6-month-old kitten?

The kittens should be weaned at 6-8 weeks. Not all animals are natural, nurturing mothers, and she may just not know how to make the kittens go away. I would recommend separating them. The kittens still need a safe environment and easy access to kitten food, but they no longer need mom for milk.

Changes in the social structure in a household like this can be very stressful for cats. They are not a very social species by nature, and it's often very hard for them to accept "newcomers" - even if these are her sister's kittens. I would recommend making sure that the aggressive cat has her own area where she can get away completely from the kittens and your other cat whenever she wants to - this should be a comfortable room with a litter box, food and water bowls, a cat tree or other resting spot, etc. This way, she can be on her own if she prefers to, but can still come out an interact with the other cat and her kittens if she chooses. Feliway diffusers in the areas where she spends most of her time may also help to reduce her stress. It may take her weeks, months, or even longer to adjust, so be patient - some cats never really adjust, unfortunately, and may need to be kept in separate areas of the house to keep everyone happy.

Kittens are socialized through interaction with the mother cat and their littermates, and kittens who are separated from mom at a young age tend to miss out on this socialization. One explanation for why they may seem more aggressive is that they are treating people like other cats, and being more aggressive with them. I will also say that it is pretty common for cats to be fearful and therefore aggressive at the veterinary clinic - and who could blame them? Unpleasant things they don't understand tend to happen there. If she seems anxious and fearful at the vet you could ask about things to try to reduce her stress level like pheromones or a sedative.

Unfortunately, kittens that were bottle fed can be aggressive and not as friendly. You can try to put some feliway diffusers in the House and spray her sleeping areas. Feliway is a cat pheromone which can sometimes help to calm them. Also, give her more time. She has been moved from multiple house in her short life and now around new cats (they don’t usually remember family). This can be stressful and can take weeks for them to acclimate to. Sudden aggression and behavioral changes in cats can indicate pain or illness, so if you haven't already, a veterinary check up is best. If your cat checks out healthy, it may be there is a lot of stress causing your cat's behavioral issues. Making sure she has her own access to food, water, toys, treats, hiding spots etc from other pets or people is best. She is also still very young, and may just have a lot of energy/is still learning what appropriate behavior is. Ignoring bad behavior, increasing play and activity times, and rewarding calm, quiet behavior is best to teach her the right way to interact and to get out that excess energy. If the behavior continues even with this, speaking with a veterinary behaviorist is the best next step.

Yes, that is normal. Some kittens are more independent than others and they are old enough to begin exploring the world on their terms. Generally the cats will work this out amongst themselves. I do recommend to have the mother spayed in six weeks. Spaying cats prevents many health and behavioral issues. It also helps to control the problem of pet overpopulation. One female cat can have almost 30 kittens in a year. That is a lot of cats! I hope this helps.
