Is Meloxicam (Eloxioral) safe for my spayed kitten after surgery?

Meloxicam can be used in cats but with caution. Giving the wrong dose of meloxicam can be very dangerous for cats. The low dose (0.5 mg/ml) formula can be dosed with the provided syringe. In the cat this product is given either as a single one time injection in association with surgery (its FDA approved use) or long term 2-3 times per week (its non-U.S. dose). Long term use of this product in cats is "off label" in the U.S. In my opinion, there is a specific NSAID made for cats called Onsior that would be safer to give.

Hello, yes you can give the Meloxicam at 8 am, no problem. she is probably still shook up and in pain, her biting you is likely due to that but don't worry she will be back to her normal self soon enough (a few days).

Those drugs (NSAIDS) are not really recommended for cats. If you do give it, I suggest it only be ONE dose. You are better off getting an NSAID made for cats from your vet called Onsior. Cats are extremely sensitive to these medications. You need to tell us what dose of these drugs you have an if they are pills or liquid, otherwise we can't help you. It will make her feel better and possibly resolve the mastitis faster, so likely the better approach would be to bottle feed the kittens while she's getting the meloxicam and then return them to her at least 48 hours after the last dose. Unfortunately this is a very large dose for his size. Also, if he has kidney problems he could be even more sensitive than normal cats. I would have your vet or your local emergency take a look at him. They may want to check his bloodwork to ensure his kidney values look okay and also make sure he is able to pass irons. I don't like to disagree or contradict a vet's recommendations, but because there isn't supporting evidence that it's safe to be used in cats, another pain medication may be better to use on Haley. I would speak to your vet about getting another pain medication prescribed for her.

It is OK that you gave it 2 hours early but I personally don't recommend multiple days of Metacam administration in cats. I suggest you stop giving it at this point unless she seems painful. After a week she should not be.
