Kitten has wolf worm, vet closed. Is it contagious to other pets?

I'm sorry but it is impossible to tell just by looking at a photo. If you put a thick layer of Vaseline over the hole that will cause the bot fly larvae to go to the surface if there is one in there. It is also possible that there was a larvae in there but it has already come out. Be advised that this would only happen if the kitten is outdoors and has come into contact with grass. The time period where the larvae matures to the maggot stage is 3 to 7 weeks so, it would not be that likely in a one month old kitten. I would suggest you take the kitten to your vet for an exam.

A cuterebra, or bot fly larva, could be underneath the skin but typically you would see a swelling and not be able to feel the larva underneath. Maggots or fly larvae can contaminate open wounds but you would see an obvious wound with the larvae present. There are no other types of worms that could migrate beneath the skin that would be in your area. It's possible that you're feeling something in the muscle. You might want to have your vet take a look to determine what it is that you are feeling.

The worms in the photo appear to be tapeworms or, less commonly, pinworms. these can cause impactions and diarrhea, especially in kittens. Unfortunately, I am unable to prescribe medication for Coco without having examined her. However, your veterinarian can quickly determine the exact type of parasites present with a fecal sample and prescribe the appropriate treatment. Because many parasites are transmitted by fleas, it is important for Coco to be on a monthly flea preventative. You should also be careful when cleaning out her litter box to make sure you wash your hands well with soap and water, as some of these parasites can infect humans. I hope all is well!

She could probably receive more deworming if needed at this point. I would recommend that you have Jewel evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry you are having trouble with Gulabo! I'm having a hard time orienting myself with the pictures. The first one looks like a deep puncture, the 2nd looks like a healing wound and the last looks like scabs on the ear. I recommend shaving the fur away from all the areas, clean the areas well with mild soap and water twice daily then apply a triple antibiotic cream to all areas twice daily. Purchase an Elizabethan collar (lamp shade) to prevent licking and keep Gulabo indoors. I can not see worms. It is likely best to have her seen by a Vet but I understand that one is not near by. It sounds like Boots may have intestinal parasites. There are many different kinds, but we usually lump them into 3 groups: round/hook/whip worms look like spaghetti, tapeworms look like flat noodles or small grains of rice, and coccidia or giardia are other types that are not visibly seen. You can try an OTC dewormer that treats the specific type of worm you are seeing and make sure it is repeated in a few weeks as directed on the label, but I recommend that Boots go to a vet. She is way overdue for kitten vaccines and a rabies shot (which is required in all cats and dogs by law - even if they will never ever step foot outside). There are many nasty cat viruses that can cause illness and even death. Your vet can also test a fecal sample to determine the most appropriate treatment timeline for her individual parasite(s).

Oh great question! I bet that worm was surprising. Likely this was a bot fly larvae called a cuterebra. Part of their life cycle is completed in the skin of a mammal, just as you found with Diego. Usually once it has fallen out (or removed), the body heals the wound and no other treatment is needed. Occasionally I find 2 or 3 lesions on an animal, but typically it is just 1.
