Kitten has wolf worm, vet closed. Is it contagious to other pets?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 lbs

10-12 week old kitten with what appears to be a wolf worm. Stopped by local vet and got a steroid shot but kitten hasn’t been seen by a vet. Vet is not open again until Monday. What should I do? And can the wolf worm be transmitted to other animals. This kitten is usually outside but we brought her in to be more comfortable. I have other animals inside and don’t want them to be exposed.

I would recommend finding a vet that would be able to see Pusheen. If it is a larvae from a bot fly this would need to be removed. The larvae have to be removed carefully since they can induce anaphylactic reactions if not.
