My weak kitten has odd movements. Is it a seizure? Mom died.

If she had what appeared to be a seizure, I would place a small amount of karo syrup on the gums and get her seen right away as her sugar level may be low. This could easily cause the seizures with low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Sick kittens oftentimes do not eat enough and will secondarily get hypoglycemia. Hello, This could be several different things. Not eating following by seizures makes me concerned that they may be hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) from not eating. This usually leads to seizures, which can be associated with changes in urination and defecation. Infectious diseases are also very common in kittens. Many of the mother cats are not vaccinated and can pass viral diseases to their young. Feline Leukemia Virus, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, Feline Herpes Virus, and Feline Panleukopenia can all cause kitten deaths. Unfortunately, with kitten rescue, we can't ever be sure of the mother's health beforehand. The better controlled the feline overpopulation problem is and the more cats are vaccinated, the better it will be overall. Thoroughly disinfecting bowls, litter dishes, floors, etc and quarantining cats in your home is the best way to minimize disease spread. I hope this is helpful. Rabies would be unlikely at 4 weeks but there are many other developmental, viral and parasitic causes as well as weakness, fever and dehydration which could contribute. I recommend a postmortem on the other kittens and full examination of the ones you have to try and determine underlying cause. I recommend keeping them isolated from other cats and kittens to reduce potential spread

Please take your kitten to the vet immediately. It sounds like she may be having neurologic symptoms, which could be due to low blood sugar associated with not eating and drinking, and she is very likely dehydrated. This is potentially deadly, and your kitten should be seen right away to check her blood sugar levels, assess for dehydration, and address the cause of her weakness. Another very serious concern in a stray kitten is the possibility of rabies infection, which is transmitted from the saliva of infected mammals, can be passed on to humans, and is fatal. There may also be other underlying neurologic causes for her condition, and a veterinarian can help determine the cause and start treatment .

If she is having seizures she needs to be rechecked to see what is causing them. It is good that she is eating and drinking again. I would worry about a toxin or neurological problem from her past that is affecting her health

If you can wake her up and the shaking stops it is not a seizure and is more likely movement associated with REM sleep. If you try to wake her up but she continues to have muscle tremors it could be a seizure or neurologic disorder and you should see your veterinarian. If you do decide to see your veterinarian a video can help them determine what might be going on.

Poor Maui!! I understand your concern for him. This definitely could have been a seizure, the decreased energy you are now noticing could be the post-ictal or post-seizure phase. Being completely relaxed such as during sleep can lower the seizure threshold for some animals. I would recommend that Maui be examined by your regular veterinarian. They may want to do some diagnostics (such as X-rays, blood work and a fecal exam) to rule out some conditions that may contribute to seizures. Your vet likely will not recommend any medications or treatments at this time, it is important to determine if this is a once off incident or if Maui is going to be prone to seizures long-term. I would recommend keeping a log of ahyvsusosct activity, especially any physical symptoms (such as limb paddling), and also duration of the episode.
