My weak kitten has odd movements. Is it a seizure? Mom died.

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 29 days old | 0.75 lbs

I would like to know if I am seeing a kitty seizure. The mother of the kittens died and this one started doing really poorly. I've been feeding her by hand and got her back up to 12.3 ounces, she went down to 11.5. She is very weak and unable to walk. She started doing this odd movement. I can't tell if she is trying to get up or having a seizure. I have a short video of it.

It sounds like you are describing cerebellar hypoplasia. You can find videos on YouTube to see if it looks similar. Now, if the mom died and had neurological symptoms as well, you need to be concerned about the possibility of rabies. Remember, rabies is a FATAL disease so if I would strongly suggest you take the kitten to a vet for an exam and discuss with them the situation with the mother so the appropriate steps can be taken.
