Why is my 4-week-old kitten wobbly and falling? Is it rabies?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male

Hello, I am fostering three 4 week old kittens. Two of their siblings were euthanises upon arrival because they were paralysed. One of the three kittens is really wobbly. He keeps falling left and right as he walks. Could that be a sign of rabies?

Rabies would be unlikely at 4 weeks but there are many other developmental, viral and parasitic causes as well as weakness, fever and dehydration which could contribute. I recommend a postmortem on the other kittens and full examination of the ones you have to try and determine underlying cause. I recommend keeping them isolated from other cats and kittens to reduce potential spread
