My cat is vomiting, losing weight, and has a huge appetite. Why?

Hello, sorry to hear about Cello. This could be considered a type of delayed vaccine reaction and can be either due to pain at the injection site or a direct reaction in her stomach. If she is vomiting a lot, then I would definitely recommend she is seen by a veterinarian to avoid severe dehydration. However, there is a chance that this may pass on its own if you monitor her for the rest of the day. On the other hand, there are other things that can cause a decreased appetite and vomiting such as foreign bodies, worms, and viruses. It sounds like she has something more serious going on with her, and it could be that her anorexia, vomiting, and blood in the stool could be caused by GI tumors, GI polyps, irritable bowel disease, or a foreign body, among other causes. I would take her back into the vet for a physical exam, blood tests, a urinalysis, and possibly x-rays to diagnose what is causing her symptoms so treatment can be started. She may have something that's treatable, and her current symptoms do not necessarily mean she is dying. Have her seen by a vet in the morning.

Poor Checker! This is a huge amount of weight to have lost in a year, so I would say that something is definitely wrong. In older cats with significant weight loss like this and normal blood work, the most common possible causes would be an intestinal absorption issue like inflammatory bowel disease (which can be present even if she is not having diarrhea), or some type of abdominal cancer. The next diagnostic steps would be abdominal x-rays and ultrasound, with exploratory surgery and intestinal biopsies if needed to get a definite diagnosis. If this isn't possible for financial reasons, a trial course of oral steroids and injectable vitamin B12 might be helpful - I would suggest discussing these options with your vet to see what he/she recommends.

Losing weight, vomiting and diarrhea in an older cat can be concerning. The sound you may be hearing when she eats is grinding of her teeth which cats can do when they are nauseous or have stomach issues. Possible causes for her symptoms are: kidney failure, liver problems, an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer or possibly but less likely an obstruction (ate something that is stuck). Most of the above can be easily diagnosed on blood work. Your Vet may want to take an X-ray of her belly as well. I hope this helps and I wish Honey Bee the best!

There are three very common diseases that older cats get and I am guessing she has one of these that are causing her symptoms. Hyperthyroidism Diabetes Kidney disease These can all be easily tested with some simple bloodwork at your vets. It is not likely parasites so spend your money on the blood testing and not the fecal test. Only do the fecal test if the blood work all comes back normal. My best guess as to what is going on based on your description would be hyperthyroidism which can be easily treated. So please get Ebony to your vet for an exam and testing. Please have her assessed by a vet as soon as possible, the abdominal enlargement in the face or persistent vomiting and diarrhea is a huge concern. Fluid build up , liver disease and tumors are all possibilities, early diagnosis is required in order to fully assess all options for her care

I am sorry Daisy has not been feeling well for a year. I can say being in heat for a year is very abnormal. it is possible she has an abnormal ovary or uterus which is putting out hormones that are causing her to have these clinical signs. Also, if she is not gaining weight and vomiting she could have irritable bowl disease, intestinal disease, infection, virus or even a pancreas problem. Daisy really needs to see a vet and start a work up. Usually blood work and fecal exam would be the first steps. However if those test are normal she might need more specific diagnostic testing.
