My kitten is vomiting and weak after a flea bath. Is it serious?

Poor Shadow! She is very young to be fully immersed in water, it is incredibly stressful and dangerous for young animals. Moreover, dish soap is very bad for their skin and coat and not even a truly effective way of killing fleas, when the eggs hatch there will be no residual activity. In future it would be much kinder and more effective to buy a spot on flea treatment such as frontline. Now as for why she is so poorly: best case scenario is that she has gotten very cold and stressed and her body is temporarily reacting to it. But on the same hand she may have got water in her lungs ( her lungs are tiny so it doesn't take much) and this will make her incredibly sick and is potentially life threatening. You need to get her to a vet asap because if something serious is going on it needs to be treated quickly. Hopefully it is just that she is in a bit of shock. Hello. You should take the kitten in to be evaluated as soon as possible. Fleas do carry diseases that can infect cats & kittens, & if there are enough fleas, can actually cause anemia. If the kitten has not been wormed, then the presence of intestinal parasites such as roundworms can weaken a kitten further. This isn't good. While a bath is stressful, it shouldn't stress him out so much that he hasn't eaten for 24 hours and slept the whole time. It's actually very serious when a cat won't eat, so I would take him into a vet immediately to get checked out.

That sounds serious! Your kitten may have had a seizure or an episode of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Both of these are highly unusual in kittens. I recommend to have her examined by your veterinarian for some bloodwork today. Best of luck.

More information on the actual medications used would be required but it is never recommended to use multiple flea products, or to repeat more frequently than recommended dosage as cats are very prone to overdose side effects. This is a medical emergency and your kitten needs to see a vet now. Prolonged seizures require immediate veterinary attention, and I'm afraid there is nothing you can do for her at home. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Please take your kitten to the vet immediately. It sounds like she may be having neurologic symptoms, which could be due to low blood sugar associated with not eating and drinking, and she is very likely dehydrated. This is potentially deadly, and your kitten should be seen right away to check her blood sugar levels, assess for dehydration, and address the cause of her weakness. Another very serious concern in a stray kitten is the possibility of rabies infection, which is transmitted from the saliva of infected mammals, can be passed on to humans, and is fatal. There may also be other underlying neurologic causes for her condition, and a veterinarian can help determine the cause and start treatment .
