Why is my kitten vomiting, not eating, and has black ear wax?

Unfortunately, without a physical exam and diagnostics it is very difficult to determine what is making your cats sick. The discharge from the ears may be an ear infection (mites, bacterial or fungal), but the vomiting can have many causes. The most serious would be viral infection. Supportive care, such as IV fluids and medication to control vomiting, may be indicated while a diagnosis is sought. This will require a veterinarian. There is very little you can do at home other than to keep the warm and as stress free as possible. Offer a bland diet and a 50/50 solution of water and unflavored PediaLyte to maintain hydration.

It sounds and looks like Lucy could have an abscess. When cats play too rough or get bitten by other cats they can develop an abscess. With an abscess comes fever and lethargy. I suggest you take Lucy to your veterinarian for exam. If an abscess is confined, you vet may need to drain the abscess and give Lucy antibiotics and pain mets. Good luck with Lucy.

I am sorry to hear that Lucy isn’t feeling well. There are a variety of different infectious causes of diarrhea in kittens, such as panleukopenia, salmonella, coccidia and others. Hello, I do worry that Lucy may have retained placenta or a uterine infection that could be causing pain. I worry whenever cats become lethargic and stop eating. Poor Spookette! It sounds like she may have a pretty bad ear infection. Ear infections can be due to mites, bacteria, or yeast in cats. I'd recommend scheduling an examination with a veterinarian so Spookette can have her ears checked out. A swab can be taken from the ears and evaluated under the microscope to determine if the cause is mites, bacteria, or yeast. She will likely need prescription ear medication to treat. Hello. This is definitely a very irritated ear, but your veterinarian really needs to see what is going on in the ear canal to make an actual diagnosis. The vomiting should be unrelated to what is going on in the ear, but Cafe could have more than one issue at a time. With having an ear this possibly infected, & vomiting, you really need to schedule an appointment with your veterinarian. Without knowing exactly what is medically going on with the ear & why she is vomiting, there really is not much you can do for her at home. I do hope you can have her seen soon. Judging from the picture you provided, I see black waxy material and also a tattoo that has been done on the inside of the pinna. The tattoo is likely to indicate that she has been spayed and it is in the pattern of a circle with a linear line through it. That is not a concern at all and will be permanent. The black wax may be due to ear mites or an ear infection though. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Fluffy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction!
