My kitten has diarrhea, vomiting, won't eat, sleeps in litter box.

I’m sorry Luna is so sick. It sounds like she needs to see a veterinarian very soon. Young kittens do not have much reserve and can become dehydrated very quickly. Please take a fresh poop sample with you when you go to the veterinarian. They will likely want to look for intestinal parasites and possibly do some blood work to look for panleukopenia. I would continue to feed her her normal kitten food. Diarrhea can be caused by sudden changes in diet, food intolerance, continued drinking of milk, intestinal parasites, bacterial or viral infection, etc. If the diarrhea continues for 48 hours, I would recommend that Lucy get checked out by the vet to determine the cause and start treatment. Make sure she gets plenty of fluids until the diarrhea resolves.

Parasites, viral infections (especially if not up to date on her core vaccines), dietary indiscretion (eating something other than her normal kitten food) or an intestinal obstruction can all cause vomiting and diarrhea. Kittens may have diarrhea and low energy due to a number of conditions including intestinal parasites, viral infections, or a change in diet. I recommend having both kittens examined by a vet as soon as possible, as it is likely that the condition is contagious. To speed up the diagnosis, I recommend bringing a stool sample from the sick kitten in a disposable container for your vet to check for parasites. It is important to have the sick kitten evaluated as kittens can quickly become dehydrated and have low blood sugar, making them feel even worse. While it is unlikely that your son got sick from one of the kittens, it is possible. I recommend that you have him seen by a physician if you are concerned.

Given her age there are several things that cross my mind, but a common issue in these young kittens is parasites. Sometimes their parasite burden can be so high that they cannot maintain adequate glucose levels, and also can become uninterested in food and sometimes will begin vomiting. I would recommend deworming her. Also, it would be important to rule out signs of infection and/or sepsis. I think she needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away. Such a young and small animal can deteriorate quickly even with easy to resolve issues like gastrointestinal parasites.

She is cute! She could have an infection or a parasite. You could take a stool sample to your vet and have it tested for parasites. If she hasn't been dewormed then an intestinal parasite is a definite possibility and your vet can prescribe a dewormer. She might also need some fluids to prevent dehydration. I would recommend a blood panel to make sure there are no major systemic changes that may indicate disease or infection. Diarrhea can also be caused by intestinal parasites so it would be good to bring a fecal sample to your vet to have it screened for parasites. She may require an oral antibiotic for the diarrhea if she is not improving. If the symptoms persist, I would recommend getting an abdominal ultrasound done to see if her intestines are thickened. Sometimes, ultrasound can pick up inflammation of the intestinal walls that may suggest inflammatory bowel diseases and intestinal lymphoma, which are both something we commonly see in cats.
