Why is there black wax and a black substance in my kitten's ear?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 2 months and 22 days old | 2.205 lbs

My kitten has one ear full of black wax, an black substance seems growing in the skin of the ear. No excessive scratching, or abnormal behavior noticed. Photo as attached.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Judging from the picture you provided, I see black waxy material and also a tattoo that has been done on the inside of the pinna. The tattoo is likely to indicate that she has been spayed and it is in the pattern of a circle with a linear line through it. That is not a concern at all and will be permanent. The black wax may be due to ear mites or an ear infection though. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Fluffy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! I'd recommend scheduling an examination with a veterinarian so Spookette can have her ears checked out. Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thank you for sending along pictures but they are a little hard to make out clearly. This could be an infection-bacterial or perhaps fungal. It could also be due to a flea allergy. I would recommend keeping Jorfy on a flea preventative monthly to rule out a flea allergy but also have him see his veterinarian. Your veterinarian may do a skin scraping and/or fungal culture to rule out bacterial infection or a fungal infection. He may need antibiotics, antifungal medications, or other medications as needed. Why does my cat have excessive ear wax in just one ear suddenly?

Poor Kiara! Normal cat ears should not have any visible wax at all - so if you are seeing yellow, brown, or black waxy material in the ear, this means that she either has an ear infection or ear mites. Treatment will depend on what type of infection is present, so I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam when you are able to. He/she can take a sample of the discharge for analysis to determine the problem and will prescribe appropriate medication to treat it depending on what is found.

My cat has black specs in ears. Are they blackheads or something else?

Based on the photo this could be little blackheads (not common) or it could be hyperpigmentation areas which is caused by chronic inflammation. NO worries though, unless they are causing irritation or excessive scratching, which it looks like they aren't, then you don't need to treat this at all. Best wishes with your kitty Bean. Take care.

Why does my kitten have black waxy stuff coming from his butt?

It possible you are seeing the opening of the anal glands with some waxy exudate built up in the opening. Cats will generally keep themselves clean but some are better than others. Not all cats require treatment for anal glands but you want want to call your veterinarian and ask. Also, you may be able to keep the area clean by soaking it with a warm wet cotton ball or a gentle cleaning once a day. I hope this helps.

My 4-month-old kitten has ear scabs & waxy bumps. Is it an infection?

Poor Juniper. It's hard to get an idea of whats going on without a photo at least. Skin tags are not common in kittens. The ball of wax is also abnormal in most instances and I would be concerned that there is an ear infection of yeast or bacterial or perhaps an ear mite infection. It could also be a combination of infections. I recommend to play it safe and have Juniper examined by her veterinarian today if possible. Ear infections can get worse quickly so it's best to know if one is present so it can be addressed quickly. Best of luck.
