My kitten is vomiting after starting antibiotics. What should I do?

Hi, my kitten suddenly started vomiting today and she has vomited 5 times :( , yesterday morning I started giving her a medicine called Clavet (she was sick because of cold and the vet gave me Clavet and told me to give her 2 times a day) she has taken 3 doses ( morning - night - morning ) but this morning ( around 6:45AM ) she vomited, and now it's 10PM, she vomited 5 or 4 times today between 6:45 am and 10 pm, so I stopped giving her Clavet, and now I'm really worried and don't know what to do

Unfortunately, some antibiotics can cause GI upset (vomiting and/or diarrhea). Since Snow is a kitten, we certainly worry more about her vomiting and getting dehydrated. Since it's too late to contact your vet tonight, I would try to offer Snow a small amount of water overnight and see if she is able to keep that down. If she does not want to drink water, you can try a small amount of a low sodium chicken broth or the water (not oil) that canned tuna or salmon is packed in. I would recommend contacting your vet in the morning to get their recommendation from there. If Snow continues to vomit, she will certainly need to be seen by your vet for some medication.

I would recommend taking Soot back to the vet. If he hasn't been on antibiotics in 2 days then there may be another reason for the vomiting. He needs a full exam and possible diagnostics to determine the cause of vomitting and approriate treatment. Syringe feeding him while he is sick and nauseated is unlikely to be successful. Vomiting can be observed with gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity, foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I am concerned that she is becoming dehydrated. I do not think this is because of the fish. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck and have a great day!

Vomiting can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have them evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start them on medications to make them feel better. My cat threw up dry food two days in a row. What should I do?

It sounds as Snow is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Kitten throwing up for first time: Should I be worried? What to do?

Poor Bella! It's not normal for a kitten to throw up, but you can try a home remedy first before having to take her into the vet. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. This vomiting could be caused by a GI illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. Should Bella need to see a vet, the vet can diagnose the cause of the vomiting and can treat her for it.

My 3-week-old kitten got an antibiotic overdose. What should I do?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Overdosing of antibiotics is usually not a huge deal. It can cause an upset stomach, vomiting, diarrhea. I would monitor for these signs. I do recommend calling your local emergency clinic (or posting another question) including which antibiotic (Amoxyclav?, Doxycycline?, etc.), as this might change the answer and inducing vomiting might be recommended. Otherwise, just monitor for signs of an upset stomach and skip the next dose. Best of luck with Sumi!

Why won't my kitten eat after vet visit & antibiotics for URI?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Just like you pointed out, it is possible that this is all related to the trip. I would recommend to just continue with the current plan for now. If it is just related to the trip, she should start feeling better soon. If her appetite has not improved by tomorrow, let your veterinarian know as the other possibility would be that the antibiotics are causing her to lose her appetite which is a common side effect seen with some antibiotics. Good luck! I hope this is just transient and she goes back to normal.
